Sensone Tuscany - Chestnut Farm - Peace and Beauty a unique property in Tuscany!
Hello, we have a lovely old Tuscan farm house and over 100 aces of chestnut farm (not farmed except for the wood). We love it here on the Appenine mountains of Tuscany, 11 Kms from Barga, 30 from the walled city of Lucca and an hour from the glorious beaches!
Florence is an easy day trip, but the Garfagnana valley is a heaven for all walkers, skiers, mountain bikers, wild life enthusiasts etc....
Our house is not overlooked - our nearest village Renaio is less than 1 km away (good bar / restaurant), people are friendly and our animals very much loved (you will love them as well)!
Two of our horses are in fields near Barga, so we have to visit them once a day - to feed them, the pony is at the farm and normally sticks his head in through the front door from time to time!
You reach our property from the main road by driving down our 0.8 Km long forest road, we have a 4x4 jeep for this - or you can take the short cut and walk, but you will need a car to get around.
The property has three double bedrooms and an annex, modernised, but with all the old features, big log fires in the winter, you can even sleep outside in the summer under the stars.
My work is providing Internet for rural locations - so we have excellent wifi and even full English TV (as well as Italian Tv if you want to practice).
Important Note for winter house sitters: Sensone is in a beautiful, although remote location.
We are close to the village of Renaio, but we do get snow for short periods in the winter, so there is always a possibility of snow (sometimes deep) for a few days. In this situation, you may need to walk from the house to our car park - a distance of some 700m. There is a Jeep available and the road to Barga is normally snow ploughed by 10,00 am, however in the winter period, we only would accept the more hardy souls - in terms of house sitters, you probably know if you are one!
In the spring, summer and autumn - no problem!
If you want to find the really authentic Tuscany, great people, great food and love animals - this is for you! + More info
Our Home & Location
Sensone is peaceful and not overlooked by any other properties, surrounded by nature at its best, eagles soar the mountain, porcupines, deer and even wild boar in the forests, lots of wonderful mountain walks and of course the valley is fabulous for white water rafting, horse riding, mountain climbing and of course just taking it easy.
Our nearest town, Barga always has lots of art and musical events going on in the summer, but is wonderful in the winter season as well....
About the house: Sensone has three double bedrooms, bathroom and a separate annex that can sleep up to six in one big room, plus a further shower and toilet.
We have a kitchen, dining room and Lounge area and the whole property is covered by wifi and has English TV.
Outside we have Decking with tables chairs and a fabulous view out over our valley and the property has Jacuzzi and swimming pool - for summer use only!
Our house feels remote, but it isn't really as you can be in the village in 10 minutes - even walking and Barga is only 11Kms away, it is very special.
Anyone who loves nature will love Sensone, but it is a Tuscan farm, approached by its own dirt road, so to get the best from your holiday pack a pair of decent walking shoes! + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
We love our animals, so the main job is just making sure they are fed and watered.
This should not take too much out of the day....
Dogs live in and around the house, but are known to run around our land, the horses need checking and feeding with hay provided in the winter and a little hard food - this does involve a drive to Barga once or twice a day, but we usually combine this with a trip to the supermarket or bar!
Our cats are free to room and need feeding once a day.
Chickens are free range, but need a scoop of food and be locked away at night.
All the animals are very, very friendly and well socialised, our horses are BIG, but again totally trustworthy and take no time to look after - as long as they have some hay in the winter and a little hard food - they are happy. + More info
