Ideal stay for a couple - 2 Rottweiler pups
We do a fair amount of traveling each year and I prefer to keep my dogs in their home when we leave. I have always found someone locally to stay with my dogs, usually one of our staff members but they all have pets of their own now . This site was recommended by a friend and I thought what a great idea. I would have LOVED something like this when I was younger, what a perfect way to experience the world. (and who knows I may try the pet/house sit myself some day)
I am a retired realtor in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and we like to get away about 2 or 3 times a year usually on a cruise ship to various destinations in the world. We find cruising an easy way to travel and then spend time on either side of the cruise in the destination or departure city. We're normally away a total of about 3 to 4 months a year....
We left Vancouver Canada 12 years ago for nicer weather in Puerto Vallarta and have been living here full-time (except for travels) ever since. I know we have a great opportunity for someone to experience a beach destination city in Mexico. We love our home, city and our boys and I am sure you will too! + More info
Our Home & Location
We have a modern two bedroom Penthouse condo in the heart of Old Town, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, steps away from the beach, best restaurants and shops. Car not necessary, everything is within walking distance and taxi's are cheap if you want to check out local attractions. Or try the bus for about 50 cents (7 pesos per trip) Puerto Vallarta has everything to offer as a tourist beach destination and more.
Our condo has some of the best ocean, town and city views with a spectacular ocean breeze most of the day. Our doors and windows are open 24/7 even during the hotter months. In the summer, July till November we do close off the bedroom at night and enjoy the A/C for sleeping (all rooms equipped with A/C). Summer is Hot and Humid and usually clouds over about 4pm and rains which freshens things up, the days are hot and sunny. I like to hang out on the terrace and watch the thunder and lightning shows, amazing. You also get nightly fireworks about 9:30/10:0 each evening....

We have a very spacious well equipped kitchen if you like to cook. Gas BBQ, bar and dining area out on the terrace with ample lounging area and dipping pool/jacuzzi. Condo has washer/dryer, bathtub and shower. (I say this as most places in Mexico only have showers).
We have WIFI in the unit and access to Netflix and Amazon prime video as well as Satellite TV. Although I presume you'll spend most of your days on the terrace enjoying the view.
Our condo building is run like a condo hotel, most owners use it as a vacation rental property when they aren't here. The building has an infinity pool, spa, gym, and Bar/lounge in the lobby, a great place to meet our locals and find out where to go around town. Puerto Vallarta is a beach vacation destination with all kinds of local attractions and things to do. It is also known as a LGBT destination with a great mix of people from all over the world. (majority Canadians and Americans)
Our building is very secure with 24/7 security and our rental office is open 24/7. Puerto Vallarta is safe, people say they feel safer walking around here than they do in their home cities. Does Mexico have problems, absolutely but mainly up near the border towns. Just be travel smart like you would any where and you'll be fine.
I have a cleaning lady (Alma) that comes 6 days a week for 8 hours a day (off Sunday) and she helps with the pups who were 7 months old on April 8, they will be 9 months old in June. I spend a lot of time with the pups and work with a trainer twice a week. They are gentle boys (litter mates) and should be pretty much trained by June (9 months). I think it would be easier for a couple or two friends to care for them in June as they are young, strong and still learning. By a year old they will be a little easier to handle. I like to be able to take my dogs into any situation comfortably.
Alma doesn't speak much English, she cleans and takes care of the condo for us but isn't capable of taking care of the dogs for any length of time. She has spent a night here and there with them but thats about it right now. Alma takes the pups out separately each afternoon for a pee break, so you have ample time to enjoy your days .
We operate the rental office (our business) downstairs in the lobby so Alma can contact them for any maintenance issues and is always here to supervise if workers have to enter the unit. (the pool cleaner and plant person come once a week). We have English speaking employees in the rental office if you are having trouble communicating with Alma or need help with anything.
We manage the rentals for two condo buildings located beside each other and have about 90 staff on site. June will be our first time using Trusted House Sitters and my partner is a little nervous about leaving our home and pets with strangers for the first time. I told him with all our staff on site it wouldn't be a place someone looking to create problems wants come. And the office provides support for our sitters. He hasn't viewed the site to see all the great reviews.
We're looking for dog lovers to take care of our gentle but large boys while were away in exchange for a great place to stay, I look forward to meeting new people. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
Due to the age and size of the pups I would prefer a couple or two friends to stay with the pups it will be easier to walk them. They are friendly but strong and need a firm hand as they can be easily distracted. I work with a professional trainer twice a week and practice daily throughout the week on my own. Most of their training now is on an individual basis but as you can see from the photos we are just starting (April at 7 months) to walk them together. Right now they are a handful to walk together but get better each day. For our big walks twice a day I take one walking, drop him off and then take the other (much easier and part of the training schedule as you can't train the pups together until they know what to do on an individual basis). The first dog sit is 2 months from this posting so I am confident I will have them healing together but would still prefer a couple (2 people) for the June 2018 sit.
No Responsibilities for the condo really. Our cleaning lady comes 6 days a week from 8:30 am to 4:30am (Sunday off) she cleans, does laundry and helps with the pups....
Our office is on site and will take care of any expenditures needed during your stay.
We have no yard so the dogs are taken out twice a day for a walk and usually two more times for a pee break.
My routine (by June)
6:00/7:00am - up and out of the house for walk or pee break and then a 45 minute to 1 hour walk. The Malecon (ocean boardwalk) is a nice morning walk .(try to be finished by 9:00/9:30am as it gets hot)
Feed about 10:00/10:30am (wait about 1/2 hour after walk to cool down)
2:00pm - Alma will take pups out for pee break
5:30/7:00pm - take pups out for walk 45 minutes to 1 hour walk.
Late afternoon I like to walk through the town behind buildings to keep them in the shade as much as possible (and myself)..
at about 8:00pm they get another feeding (fed twice a day)
I take them out again about 10:30/11:00pm before I go to bed. Or when I get home if I have been out.
Sunday you have them all day. (no Alma)
The boys are on a Raw Food diet which is kept in the freezer and delivered once a week. We will make arrangements wthl Alma to take care of payments before we go. (no medications)
The pups sleep in our room on the floor in their own beds and don't go on the furniture. As puppies they haven't been by themselves much as Alma is here during the day and we may go out once a week during the evening. Many places are pet friendly here if you want to stop on the way back from a walk for breakfast or a beer.
Our Rental office is downstairs and our staff know the dogs. Kathryn will be your contact in the office. She looked after my other dog and knows the vet and their routine. They can drive the dogs to vet if needed or the vet makes house calls. Our staff know the dogs are a priority and will be available to assist you should you need anything.
