Cosy house with garden and 3 guinea pigs
I and my partner Rob go on holiday a few times a year. Sometimes we go alone in which case the other person can take care of everything but sometimes we go together. When this happens we are happy to have lovely friends who can take care of our pets and house, but I fear that asking them every time is not fair on them. We also sometimes rent out a room to Airbnb guests and have had some really good experiences with it. Now we are hoping to also have great experiences using this HouseSitter service for whenever we are away and our little babies need taking care of. We will of course not have guests staying in the house at the same time as you. About us: I am a PhD student in Social Neuroscience and Rob is a guitarist in a local band. We look forward to meeting you!
Our Home & Location
Our house is located in the north of Utrecht, in the neighbourhood called Overvecht-Noord. Right outside of our house you will find a beautiful little nature reserve, perfect for taking strolls in. There are 2 supermarkets, each located at 5-10 minutes walk away. There are also 2 bus stops that have buses going through that will take you to the city centre. The bus stops are each 3-5 minutes walking away. The fastest bus takes you into the city centre within 15 minutes. Trains from Utrecht to Amsterdam take around 30 minutes. It is also quite fast to go to Rotterdam, the Hague and most other Dutch cities from here.
Our house has a garden to sit in and a shed for you to put your bikes in. We also have one bike that we are willing to lend you if you wish. It is also easy to rent bikes for about 7 euros per day. Our living room houses the guinea pigs, who have a big enclosure to play in. There is a big TV with Netflix and Youtube for watching some shows and films. The kitchen has all the amenities and a dining area. There is a toilet, a bathroom and a guest bedroom (for you, which can sleep 2 people - a couple or 2 friends)....
There is also our bedroom, guitar room (for Rob) and office (for me). These last three rooms are not set up for guests to use, but you shouldn't need to anyway as everything you need is in the other rooms. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
We typically will not be leaving the house for more than a week. This means that your tasks are actually quite easy. Firstly, clean the guinea pig enclosure using a little brush and clean the water container using a sponge and then refill it. Secondly, feed them twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening (the times are not set specifically so you can feel free to sleep in and they won't mind). If it has not rained, please water our plants outside. Also give a little bit of water to our inside plants once every 2 days. We appreciate a little tidying and light cleaning before we arrive back at the house but no need to deep clean or anything.
Since the guest bedroom is separate from our bedroom, it is possible to extend your stay past our travel plans and we can discuss that, so you can stay a little longer if you wish. We also prefer that you stay with us already one night before we leave and one night after we come back, just to go through everything in person so everyone feels safe and ready, and to get an update at the end. This is not to micromanage, it is simply to get to know each other a bit better and feel more comfortable. The dates that we specify on here already include those two nights I just mentioned. We also appreciate daily updates and pictures of the guinea pigs! We miss them so much when we are away!
