*URGENT* Pet Sitter/House Sitter needed ASAP for 18th December - 12th January, Timaru, NZ
Hi, we are a family of three! I own a photography business, and am co-creator of a children's travel activity book, and my husband owns a building company. We have a 5.5 year old daughter and a 3 year old Collie/Huntaway energetic and super loving dog. We are in URGENT need of a pet sitter/ house sitter as we are going to the North Island for the holidays from the 18th of December until the 12th of January and our usual pet sitters are not available. We are hoping there is someone, a single person, couple or family with kids who would like to pet sit/house sit for us during this time!
Our Home & Location
Our beautiful, brand new home is a small, two bedroom 86m2 which my builder hubby and I designed ourselves and he built last year. It is small but open plan so feels like a good size townhouse. We have a small backyard and a big deck out back, and are walking distance to a couple beaches in the area, including Caroline Bay. We are also walking distance to town, supermarket, and tons of food options. We have a queen bed in each bedroom, as well as a blow up mattress if needed for the lounge. A fully stocked kitchen, bikes in the garage for you to use, and a beautiful Breville espresso machine for the coffee lovers :D
During Christmas time, the Caroline Bay carnival is running and it is a great time to be in Timaru!! On New Years, you can walk down to the bay to watch the fireworks, or, as we like to do... sit out on top of the garage with a drink in hand and watch the fireworks explode over the ocean from the comfort of our own home!...
There is a great beach track walking distance from our house that is dog friendly where we often go exploring the rock pools with our daughter identifying mussels and crabs, or just to throw a stick for Wilder on the beach. There are also plenty of parks walking distance from the house to go throw a ball for Wilder.
Caroline Bay does not allow dogs in the summer because we have a fantastic little blue penguin colony which you can see at dusk!!
Caroline Bay also has a paddling pool for kids, an aviary, a great playground, and a skatepark.
We are also walking distance to CBay Aquatic Centre which has a full gym upstairs, and inside and outside pools! + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
Wilder is a tall, energetic and super loving 3 year old Collie/Huntaway. He LOVES people and is incredible with kids. Our daughter has dressed him up in her tutus while he sits there like a good sport. We have found her climbing all over him many a time and he can't get enough of it. Not that we recommend that, but he is just great with kids. He is very energetic so needs playtime, so we often take him to the park to throw a ball for him - he will do this for hours if you let him. He is GREAT at playing catch. He does tug on the lead a bit when you walk him and is quite strong, so adults only can walk him. He loves riding in cars, too, so if he's being a pain on the lead, just chuck him in the car and drive him to the park and let him run and catch balls!
He is really excitable around other dogs and we try to keep him on a lead unless chasing after a ball at the park as he sometimes will run over to greet other dogs (which people with little dogs don't tend to like very much!) so we try to keep him close if possible. He will not wander away, and is good when being called back....
He sleeps outside on his dog bed and has always been a mostly outside dog, unless it's very cold or absolutely pouring down, then we let him sleep inside. He will not (and should not) come inside the house unless he is invited in. He is usually very good about this! Even with the back sliding doors open, he will stay out on the deck unless he is invited in. If he gets under your feet or gets too excited, you can just say 'outside!' and he will head right back outside to the deck and backyard. He is well trained to sit and wait for his meal times (breakfast and dinner) and we have always had our daughter feed him as one of her wee jobs, so he is okay for kids to feed him. We don't feed him at exact times, just whenever we get up in the morning and after we've eaten dinner - or before - you'll know when he's hungry as he will sit very nicely and whine at the door to let you know! + More info
