Cosy Bungalow, Exuberant Dogs, Lazy Cats, Productive Chooks, Well Trained Mother-in-Law
We live in the perfectly sized town of Gore. Victoria currently works in local government and Gary works for a local milk processing plant. We have owned the house since 2010 and adore it. Almost as much as we adore the animals. Most of our animals have been 'inherited'. The dogs are both rescue dogs who definitely landed on their paws. Our two older cats came to us from friends and our younger cat was a precious inheritance after a death in the family. I will add more information and detail as I think of it.
Our Home & Location
Gore is a medium sized in Eastern Southland, surrounded by farming land. The Mataura River runs through it and is renowned for its trout fishing. Our three bedroom (though we have configured it two bedrooms and an office) is a 1930's brick and roughcast bungalow, set on a 1/4 acre section - the New Zealand Pavlova Paradise. Gore is 50 minutes from Invercargill, two hours from Queenstown and two hours from Dunedin. It is perfectly situated to begin any forays you might like to make in the wider Southland/ Otago regions. On site we have a caravan that houses Bev, Gary's Mum. She has been living down here since 2017 and is very active; getting out to the pool or the gym most days. She also volunteers at the Hospice Shop.
Responsibilities & Pets
Where to start. All of our animals are rather cruisey, really. Just feed them on time! Our dogs are smoochy, medium sized rascals. Our cats are smoochy small sized rascals.
We generally try to walk the dogs twice a day for at least half an hour at time, but they can cope with one walk day. They both love getting out and experiencing the country side. They're both a bit non-commital when it comes to recall (especially if there's prey in the area), so we tend to keep them on leads when we're investigating bush walks or out on the streets, but they're generally off lead a the local dog areas. Ally is utterly obsessed by water and will swim in the river until she can't breath properly. Sam enjoys using his nose to hunt down treats that have been thrown into the grass....
The cats are cats. Nigel loves attention, George not so much and Clovis spends a lot of her time with Bev. All the cats have personalised feeders because Nigel is a bully and a guts.
The dogs get food delivered every three weeks. We supplement their diet with beef and mutton bones and both of them have a joint supplement that they get in the evening. We'll stock up on food for the cats. Nigel and George usually have dry food. Clovis had to have most of her teeth removed a couple of years ago so she's mostly on wet food, but she's happy to attack dry food too.
When it comes to the property, we just ask that the lawns are mowed. That's all. + More info
