Hiking and walkies with your furry pal

If hiking is your thing and your Polish house sitting adventure is nearby, we highly recommend getting leads and collars at the ready for a day hiking in Zakopane’s Tatras mountains or the epic Giant mountains in the south, which border the Czech Republic. 

And for a little sightseeing during your hike, head to Gryfino’s Crooked Forest (if you don’t know, get to know!), or walk via Morskie Oko Lake. To get to the lake is a long (yet paved) hike through the forests of Tatra National Park, and will be so worth the view once you and your furry pal make it there. Fun fact? The lake changes color depending on the season, ranging from the deepest blues to a soft turquoise, so cameras at the ready! 

Or if mountains aren’t yours (or your doggo’s) thing or you’re staying nearer the cities, there are plenty of places to walk near Krakow. Head to Left Bank Vistula Boulevards - a nice flat route popular with runners with plenty of space to walk with your new pup pal on the wide path next to the Vistula river.

And if you’re house sitting in Poland near Krakow, head to Bagry Reservoir, where you can swim, take in the scenery or even observe a local open-air sailing event. Or maybe you’d like to let Fido run free in the city - if so, check out Psi dog park, or Dogopark Śródmieście, in Krakow, or Kraskinski dog park in the center of Warsaw.

City life

Many of the furry pals that’ll need the company of a pet lover like you live in Poland’s cities - and it’s safe to say you won’t be short of things to do if you’re staying in Warsaw, Krakow or Gdańsk. All three are brimming with architecture from across the centuries, including vast areas reconstructed after WWII. 

For a mix of medieval, Gothic and Renaissance buildings, head out for walkies around Krakow’s Rynek Glowny Central Square, or hop on the tram to see a few more sights along the way. 

Or, head over to Warsaw’s Old Town via bus (or on foot for walkies if you’re house sitting close by) for baroque palaces and a variety of churches from years gone by.

Originally government-subsidized eateries, they now function as a sort of low-cost cafeteria. They’re spots where locals, tourists and house sitters alike can relax and refuel without breaking the bank. 

So if you’re in Warsaw, head to Bar Mleczny Prasowy, or Milkbar Tomasza in Krakow for stacks of pierogi, goulash and schnitzel with a Polish twist.

History caps on!

As you might already know, Poland is a country bursting at the seams with rich history. And if you’re hopping aboard the pet care exchange Poland has to offer, you’ll be surrounded by pieces of history every step you take. 

Take Krakow for one - boasting architecture from across the centuries, it was even once the capital of the country for some 500 years, until King Sigismund III Vasa moved his court to Warsaw in 1596. 

And partly because of the key role that the city played in the making of Poland, there are so many historical sites to feast your eyes on while you’re house sitting there. 

From Wawel Royal Castle - the political heart of Poland in the 16th century, Wieliczka Salt Mine, Biskupin Settlement (AKA the Pompeii of Poland) and Stare Miasto - the 13th century merchants’ town bursting with palaces, churches, ancient synagogues and a Gothic cathedral, you’re never far from rich history in Poland. 

And if more recent history is of interest to you, head to Gdańsk's Museum of WWII or take a day trip from Krakow to Auschwitz.
