Off-grid olive farm with alpacas, chickens and dogs in Spain
Hi! We're Axel and Sandrine, and we moved to Spain to live a simple life off the grid. We like to go back visit our families in Belgium & the Netherlands, which is when we love to have people over to care for our home and animals.
Our Home & Location
We're off the grid - 5 minutes by car from the local village.
Our home, Mas del Encanto, has the most fantastic views of Els Ports national park, and villages around here are pretty and have everything you need: shops, bars and restaurants, pharmacies and doctors,......
We live on an olive & almond farm with alpacas to keep the grass short, chickens that give us daily eggs, and a vegetable garden which grows some of our food.
Mas del Encanto is also a bed & breakfast (which is of course closed when we're away). + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
The dogs are the main focus for us. Jabba is 3 and BIG while Jinx is older and small - they form the perfect team. They're great with people and children, but Jabba shouldn't be around free range animals as he loves to play with them. We don't like them to be left alone for more than 5-6 hours (something could be arranged if you'd like to go away for the day, or in case of emergency), They get fed morning and night.
The alpacas are quite shy, but also very low maintenance. They get extra food once a day and need to have water and hay at all times....
Joey is old and basically sleeps all day. He wants food when the dogs get fed - and maybe a change of litter box if we're away for a long time, and a brush every few days.
The chickens need to be locked up every night around sundown, as there are foxes and lost dogs in the area. In the morning, they can be let out again. They get all the food scraps + some additional food as well. In exchange, they'll provide you with daily eggs.
We might have chicks (we have an incubator, and sometimes a chicken gets broody) - they might need extra care and attention (and maybe a clean cage).
Mas del Encanto is off the grid - which means we're on solar power, water from a borehole, special systems for heating and hot water,... - it usually runs smoothly, but might need an extra check in case of bad weather.
When you get in touch, could you please mention
- the exact dates you're available
- the number of people coming here & their ages
- your mode of transportation. Unfortunately, we don't have a second car. + More info
