Large dog lover and house sitter in the Swiss mountains
If you love the extreme outdoors and exploring the alpine mountains, then this could suit you. During the winter months, the village is coated in deep snow so it would suit someone who enjoys deep powder snow walks/ snowshoeing and is confident driving in winter conditions.
We are looking for a couple (or confident individual) to house and dog sit for us during various periods this year. If you have your own dog, then they would be welcome too providing they get along. Our dog is strong willed, but he knows the routine and makes a lovely walking companion. He NEEDS one long walk in the morning and a short stroll in the afternoon. He is a German pointer cross and has a TONNE of energy, so he really needs a firm hand and a long walk or he’s a total pest. He LOVES the snow, and we have some fabulous trails very close by (we have to drive to get to them, so you will need a drivers license) that he would love to show you. He is a hunting dog and does not get along with cats or marmots.
Our chalet is in a sleepy mountain Swiss village with spectacular views, very quiet and surrounded by hiking, biking, climbing in the summer, and skiing in the winter. The chalet is over 100 years old and we have spent the last 10 years renovating it and we would love to find someone who enjoys the 'quiet adventurous life' as much as we do. We have internet and the nearest shops are close by (not walking distance), so if you are looking to work overseas, finish a book, a teacher on their school holidays or maybe you are an avid photographer.. then this could be perfect for you. Please only apply if you are an adventurous exploring soul, as Igloo loves to run outside and not be a couch potato.
Thank you and we look forward to meeting you.
Our Home & Location
We are a 30 minute drive from Verbier, and there is lots to do for anyone who like the outdoors and the mountain life. In the summer, we spend evenings on the Cols des planches with a fondue and watch the sun set, and there is a Via Feratta within 40 minutes, Champex Lac is 20 mins away, and there is a stunning gorge walk at the bottom of the road too (summer access only). There are endless hiking trails and fabulous walks in vineyards or on the col des planches. In the winter, there are endless snow shoe trails / skinning trails close by, and skiing in fab in Verbier. The closest supermarket (Migros, Coop and Denner) is a 5 min drive. There is a cafe in the village (but it's never very busy) and Le chable is 10 minutes by car which has bars, restaurants and a ski lift. The chalet is 120m2, and spread over 4 floors. You will have access to a lovely double en-suite (wc) bedroom with a separate shower room and WC next door. There is a large fully equipped kitchen which leads onto a balcony and offers indoor and outdoor dining. There is a cosy snug/ living room with a flat screen TV, piano and fire. On the ground floor, there is a large laundry room and door to the garden and terrace. A car is required to get around, but we can leave you ours too if needed. To be discussed. The house has WIFI too.
Responsibilities & Pets
Adventurous off the lead Dog walking for at least 1 hour in the morning and possibly a leg stretch in the afternoon. In the summer, we have to be careful where to walk him because of the marmots, but we know trails that are marmot free and we keep him on the lead in new ‘uncharted’ terrain. He loves human company and loves a cuddle in the evening.
The village we live in is very small and quiet and it’s vital that Igloo stays on the lead when he out and about in the village, as he chases cats....
We have a small garden, so some plant watering in the evening would be useful too. + More info
