Barney and Buster at Old Pear Tree Cottage
I live in the beautiful North Bedfordshire countryside in a thatched cottage with my two dogs Barney, a Staffy cross, and Buster, a Cairn cross. Buster is 11 1/2 and Barney is 5 1/2. I work part-time in a small local coffee shop and when not working or walking my dogs I enjoy going to the gym, playing badminton and travelling (in both the UK and abroad). My daughters are now grown up and living in London so I have no-one at home to look after Barney and Buster if I go away. Buster is a very independent elderly gentleman now and keeps very much to himself. Barney, however, is a very sensitive and needy dog who loves human company and cuddles on the sofa. He has only been in kennels once, for one night, and managed to rip a claw off as he was so distressed. I would ideally like a sitter who is used to Staffys, and their affectionate and funny ways, or just someone who is happy to spend the evening on the sofa with a 4 stone Staffy on their lap.
Our Home & Location
I live in a picturesque small village in north Bedfordshire in a thatched cottage. A car is essential as there are no shops in the village, just a pub/restaurant about 10 minutes walk away. Bedford and Rushden are both about 7 miles away by car, Cambridge about 30 miles away and Milton Keynes about 20 miles. There are lots of lovely countryside walks for those who enjoy the outdoors and I can recommend several good restaurants and tea rooms in the area.
Responsibilities & Pets
Barney and Buster are both walked in the morning, before their breakfast. A long walk is not necessary as Buster is quite an old man now and doesn't like to go too far. They are happy to be left in the kitchen for 3-4 hours and then be allowed out into the rest of the house later in the day (when they will both fall asleep on the sofas). They then have another meal in the evening. They sleep in their beds in the kitchen through the night. An evening walk is not necessary as they are happy to go out in the garden, but if it is offered they will not refuse! Barney is currently on steroids (1 tablet with breakfast) for his dry itchy skin, and Buster has a tablespoon of bran with his breakfast, apart from this there are no other medical needs.
