Two lovely easy going cats
I joined trusted house sitters 3 years ago when I was going over to Canada every 3 months to see my elderly mother. However as our 15 year old border collie developed dementia I didn't want to leave her with anyone so I always went alone and my husband stayed with the dog therefore never needing a sitter. Eventually in June last year we had to make that difficulty decision and have her put to sleep. I retired from nursing and my husband from electrical engineering and had no pets for some months. The freedom we had was good but the house didn't feel like home so we now have two cats and we are now back to needing someone to look after them. I would prefer not to put them in a cattery. We will probably get another dog eventually but not within the next year ......unless we could be sure of getting a house sitter who loves border collies. We are looking for a pet sitter for the cats this summer as we would like to take a longer holiday to see more of Canada before we get too old!!
Our Home & Location
We live in a 4 bed detached house (one is used as a study) in a quiet area of north Bedford. There are 2 reception rooms, one used as dining/family room. We do not have a bath as we had our bathroom refitted with a good size walk in shower instead. There is a downstairs cloakroom with toilet and basin. We have a large kitchen/breakfast room and utility. Mowsbury park and woods are a few minutes walk and golf course about 10 minutes. The park is very popular with dog walkers and all very friendly. There is also a cafe in the park .The bus passes the house going into town and there is a coach service going to Oxford and Cambridge both about an hour journey and very interesting university cities. It also goes to Milton Keynes shopping centre on the way to Oxford. There is the John Bunyan museum in town if you ever read Pilgrims Progress it might be of interest. The river Gt Ouse runs through Bedford where we often walked the dog in the summer. Being honest it is not the best shopping town although they have built a new cinema and hotel along a stretch of the river which I believe has a lot of restaurants etc. We are 35 mins by fast train into London st Pancras station. Local shops are within walking distance and supermarkets within 5 & 10 minute drive.
Responsibilities & Pets
Responsibilities are geared to the animals although watering the garden in hot weather would be appreciated as I love my garden. Both cats eat wet and dry food. The older cat , a rescue who is about 2 now is quite independent but does like a fuss and a tummy rub and will come and roll over at your feet when she wants attention. The kitten is 10 months and we have had her since she was 9 weeks. She is still into everything but likes to be near us most of the time and likes a lap to sit on in the evening. They are both very sweet and gentle. We have a cat flap and by the time we go on holiday Tabby should be using the garden and no longer needing litter tray. We are working on that at the minute. There would be a lot of freedom with these two as they are low maintenance.
