House and dog sitting
We (Jo and John) live in a pretty, spacious cottage, overlooking the Rother Levels, with our lively, friendly Westie. We are a mature couple, a retired teacher and legal adviser (still working), with five adult children between us, who live in the UK and abroad. We love to travel and tend to go on out of the ordinary trips, but don't want to upset our Westie by sending her to kennels while we are away, or leave our home empty and garden untended. Even if we say it ourselves, we have a lovely home which is the envy of many of our friends, and we guess other people would enjoy living in it too!
Our Home & Location
Wittersham is a small village, with a village shop and couple of pubs, around five miles from the larger town of Tenterden. Tenterden has a range of shops and amenities, including banks, post office, library, Tesco and Waitrose supermarkets and numerous coffee shops and eateries. Our cottage is on a quiet lane, surrounded by open fields and overlooking Potmans Heath Channel, which joins the River Rother a mile or so across the fields. The house sits in a plot of around half an acre of garden, with a walled garden to the east and area to the west which looks out over a 2 acre field, which also belongs to us. A public footpath crosses the field and is used by one or two walkers on a daily basis, with a few more additions at the weekends. The ground floor accommodation comprises anew well equipped kitchen with an aga, adjoining breakfast room (with views down the open field and waterway which runs alongside it) dining room, small and large sitting rooms, front hall, small office and cloakroom. The small sitting room has a woodburning stove and the large an inglenook fireplace. On the first floor are four double bedrooms, two with ensuite bathrooms and a family bathroom. The guest ensuite contains a bath, overbath shower, loo and basin and the family bathroom is fitted with a large walk in shower, basin and loo. There is oil fired central heating, plenty of very hot water, wifi throughout the house, TVs in both sitting rooms and the master bedroom.
As we are currently having building work done on the house, the interior is not looking its best, but more photos will be available and uploaded as soon as possible, hopefully by the end of January.
Responsibilities & Pets
Looking after the house and loving, feeding and walking the dog. The garden is pretty low maintenance but in the growing season the grass needs cutting every 10-14 days. There may be vegetables to harvest and fruit to pick, which sitters will be welcome to eat and plants in pots/baskets to water if it is very dry. As I (Jo) work from home and sometimes receive post that is "signed for" if the sitter is not in when the postman calls, the package may need to be collected from the sorting office in Tenterden.
