Complicated but not onerous pet sitting
We are lucky enough to live on site in a staff house in the stunning grounds of Wellington College. It is very comfortable, convenient for local shops and is surrounded by a beautiful 450 acre site with lovely buildings, a lake and woodland so there is enough walking on site for dogs and masses of other walks around and areas of special scientific interest (SSSIs). It is a gated campus with security guards who patrol as even in the holidays there are small groups of children here, but it usually feels as though we have the estate to ourselves.
We tend to walk the dogs on site for peace of mind as the area is fenced. There are lots of other lovely walks though. We are looking for someone/a couple who can sit for us once, twice or ideally several times this year during half-terms and holidays....
Because of the nature of where we live, a DBS check is necessary (old CRB check). If you are on the update service that would be ideal as the sitter will need a check specific to this College campus but not necessary. A DBS check is not difficult - we just need a little notice so we can get it done before you arrive. We pay for it and all you need to do is fill out an online form via a link that we send you and at some point present the document with proof of identity. + More info
Our Home & Location
Our house has three bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen, good sized sitting room with French doors into the garden, a small study and a dining room. It has a private garden in the front and a small garden at the back. By April, we will have the table and chairs in the garden and the swing seat which the dogs enjoy as much as we do!
There are local shops in Sandhurst and Crowthorne too. Guildford, Farnham and Winchester are all within 45 minutes. Crowthorne station is on the Reading line. We are not far from Windsor Great Park and the Saville Gardens. If you like to walk, we have Bracknell Forest surrounding us and Virginia Water is 20 minutes away. Wildmoor Heath which adjoins the estate is a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
Responsibilities & Pets
We have 2 delightful whippets. Willow is 8 and Bear is 16 months. They are very easy and well behaved - Bear loves to chase squirrels but is very good at coming back. They do like a bit of company, particularly the younger one. I never leave them for longer than 4 hours at a time if I can help it and usually spend most of the morning or the afternoon with them if I am going out for the other part of the day. Obviously you have to make it work for you too and my walking routine varies. They need at least 2 half hour walks a day depending on the time of year and they get another short one as well for interest as much as anything else. They are fed twice daily and get a chew in the middle of the day. They are sofa lovers and like their blankets.
Basically keeping them happy is my priority and you will find they are friendly dogs. We also have a hamster who needs feeding daily and its water changing every 4 days or so. It may need cleaning out at some point if we are away more than a week. Some watering of pots in the garden is needed but this is not an onerous sit. Because of the location we need someone responsible and who will be considerate of the situation and our neighbours. We live in a Close in the woods with 10 houses. It is very friendly.
