The Old Coffee House
We are Peter and Kate Barry who have lived in Broad Hinton for 20 years. Peter is a retired Army Officer, but has worked in industry for the past 20 years. Being in the Army we have travelled widely, and lived in several countries, the last being New Zealand. We have three children, all grown up and married. Eldest son lives in Kent, whilst daughter lives in Hampshire. Our youngest son lives in Singapore and it is because we are visiting him that we need a house sitter. We have employed a house sitter before, under a private arrangement, but the couple who used to house sit are now too old and have given up the practice.
Our Home & Location
The Old Coffee House is a Grade 2 listed cottage with the original part of the cottage built in 1590, situated in the centre of Broad Hinton. We have a number of close neighbours, all of whom will assist any house sitter should that be needed. Upstairs the house has 4 bedrooms - 2 double and 2 single. It has a walk in shower room and a second bathroom with a full sized bath. Downstairs has a kitchen, cloakroom and dining room. It also has a sitting room with an open fire. But the best part of the downstairs is a large green oak conservatory, which faces onto the garden. There is also a double garage, but that houses everything other than cars!! It does include a washing machine and tumble dryer. Broad Hinton is situated on the Marlborough Downs and has open rolling countryside all around it - it even has its own White Horse cut into the chalk hill by the village. The market town of Marlborough is around 7 miles away, with Swindon around 5 miles away. Swindon has an extensive Outlet Centre. Avebury with its Heritage site stone circle is around 4 miles away and all of the well known Wiltshire sites such as Stone Henge are within easy reach. For shopping Marlborough and Swindon have all of the usual supermarkets, but regretfully Broad Hinton does not have a village shop.
Responsibilities & Pets
The sitter would really be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the house. Being an old house, things can go wrong, and we have a all of the usual services (plumbers; electricians and builders etc) who know the cottage well. The sitter would also be responsible for looking after our two dogs. Really feeding and exercising is all they will need, but being very affectionate a dog lover would be ideal. The garden will be settled for the winter and should not need any maintenance.
