Dog Lover Required in North Wiltshire
We are a couple with primary school aged son who enjoy regular trips away. We have 2 medium sized dogs and due to the age of our older dog prefer not to put him in kennels.
Our Home & Location
We have a 3 bedroomed semi-detached cottage, 2 miles from Royal Wootton Basset. We are less than 10 minutes from J16 of the M4 yet are within 15 minutes of Avebury, The Ridgeway and the beautiful Marlborough Downs. Although we have a fair sized, secure garden, public footpaths leading to the Broad Town White Horse (one of seven white horses near us) start from fields across the road from us.
We are also within an hours drive of the Roman city of Bath, Bristol and 30 minutes from Cirencester - ‘Gateway to the Cotswolds’. Swindon is 15 minutes away and has good train links to London (just over an hour) and Bath and Bristol are under 30 minutes on the train....
House sitters can have full use of all bedrooms and areas of our house. Ours is a family home and has all appliances and furnishings one would expect - However, please contact us to check if you have specific queries. We have central heating and the added bonus of an open fire in the front room which you would be more than welcome to use. You would also have access to WiFi.
Due to our rural location sitters would need their own transport. We have ample off street parking.
Royal Wootton Bassett is a small market town and has our nearest supermarket, cashpoints, garages, post office etc.
In addition to being an ideal location for walkers and those interested in the ancient Avebury, Ridgeway and roman town of Cirencester and City of Bath, there are plenty of places to visit and activities near to us. Bowood House near Chippenham (20 minutes away) has a beautiful house and gardens designed by Capability Brown as well as an amazing play area for children. Lydiard Park (10 minutes away) is worth a visit for the house and grounds and is great to let children run feral! The Oasis swimming pool is another good place to take children with water slides and a wave pool. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
The main responsibility for a sitter is to ensure our dogs are looked after. Depending on the length of stay we may ask that the wheelie bin is left out or the veg and greenhouse is watered but these will not be essentials.
We also have a small cold water tank of fish in the kitchen and if we are away for 5+ days we would ask that some fish flakes are sprinkled into them....
Both our dogs are cross breeds. Our best guess = older dog is patterdale cross with spaniel. Younger dog is staffie cross with whippet or Labrador.
Other than a daily dog walk or two, our dogs are low maintenance. Although 12 years old, our older dog is happy with 3+ hour walks. If they are walked beforehand they are ok to be left for upto 5 hours. Whilst there are walks from our doorstep both dogs travel well. Our old dog is now deaf (having always been a bit selective of hearing!) and we would ask sitters to keep him on an extendable lead for walks. Our younger dog is ball obsessed and will happily chase after the ball flinger making her very easy to exercise.
They are fed once daily in the evening with dried dog food and our older dog has anti inflammatory medicine added to his food.
Both dogs are well socialised and mostly well behaved. We use local vets and both dogs are microchipped and insured. + More info
