Welcoming character-filled large home with dog-sitting requirements
Hello and thank you for looking at our profile. We are a couple living in the village of Quendon, just south of Saffron Walden, Essex. We have three friendly dogs with house and pet-sitting requirements from time-to-time.
Our Home & Location
We are conveniently located in Quendon, which is a small village with a pub, a church and an ancient cricket green, which is easily accessible both by road (just off the M11) and rail (5 min drive to the nearest station, with parking) and Saffron Walden is an exceptionally beautiful market town in North West Essex, on the border with Cambridgeshire (with Hertfordshire and Suffolk being very nearby too). Saffron Walden has everything a English village should have - tiny streets lined with brightly-coloured ancient buildings, an old imposing church, historic house with tours (Audley End House is an English Heritage attraction with lots on offer for both adults and children), boutique shops, market days (Wednesdays and Saturdays), supermarkets and many more fine attributes. We are also just a 25 minute drive from Stansted Airport (and get no airplane noise!). We are in the district of Uttlesford which has many of the villages which come top in Britain's "best" lists in it, which include Saffron Walden as well as historical Thaxted and much-photographed Finchingfield, which are all a short drive away. Lavenham and Clare in Suffolk are not distant too. Our welcoming 5 bedroom home is an old pub and an English Listed Building, dating back to the early 1700s. Though completely modernised and converted for domestic dwelling it retains many original features, including two fireplaces (one with a log burner) for chilly evenings, plus a roll-top bath and an original cellar. We have a sunny south-facing, private, garden leading straight from the kitchen area complete with access to a patio with Weber BBQ as well as outdoor dining and seating areas. We also have a games room to enjoy playing pool, air hockey and table tennis. We have off-street parking and Wifi too. Just outside our doorstep are gorgeous countryside walks through both fields and forest (the bluebells are worth a visit in late April/early May). The trainline will take you direct to central Cambridge (20 minutes) and London Liverpool Street (50 minutes). We love living here and enjoy the cosey fire-lit evenings at home in the winter, and venturing out more in the warmer months to watch the cricket on the green, walk the footpaths, pop in to town for wine and a meal or slightly further a field for the bright lights of the cities.
Responsibilities & Pets
Our dogs are our fur-babies, please care for them with this in mind. SHUMBA is our (soon to be) 11 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback who we call our "BFG". He's gentle and soft and due to his advanced years spends most of the day quietly curled up on the sofa minding his own business. PEBBLE is our (soon to be) 10 year old Miniature Dachshund. She is also no spring chicken and likes to burrow under a soft blanket most of the day but does like a gentle play still too. She's a real cuddler and will love nothing more than being curled up on a lap for as long as possible. COOPER is our (currently foster, soon to be adoptive) 4 year old Miniature Dachshund who eats *everything*! He loves a gentle play and also likes to snuggle in the evening. Both Pebble and Cooper have had significant back surgery in the last year and therefore we do have a few (common sense) house rules, around levels of play and the fact they can't jar their spines going up and down stairs or leaping off the sofa, that we'd discuss directly with a sitter. Otherwise, all three are pretty chilled, lovable dogs who relish company. The dogs are not used to being left for longer than 4-5 hours, maximum, and walks are generally quite short - around 20-25 minutes, once a day. They are all lead-trained and don't pull. They are fed twice a day, around 7:30am and 6pm. and treats are kept to a minimum but are usually given just after a walk. Full information on responsibilities will be discussed directly with sitter(s).
