Two friendly terriers in our lovely West Sussex home
We are Suzie and Trevor and we live in our detached family home with our two dogs , Mabel & Archie. we have two daughters 17 & 20. Trevor runs his own manufacturing business locally and Suzie is a school nurse and part time Macmillan nurse. We have lived in the area all our lives. We go to France every year on holiday and up until this year we have used a local student to live in and care for our dogs. Sadly she is unable to help this year and so this will be our first experience of Trusted House Sitters.
Our Home & Location
Our home is a 5 bedroom , 3 storey detached late Victorian house situated on a friendly street, with a good size enclosed garden and off road parking on a private drive. It has a large open plan kitchen and dining area, with an Aga, sofa (fight the dogs for it) and a covered veranda and outside sun trap patio area that catches the very last of the summer evening sun. The bedroom for use by the House Sitter is a large room with a double bed , next to a stunning walk in shower room. There are two further bathrooms and a cosy living room with an open fire.
We live in the village of Easebourne (don't confuse us with EasTbourne in East Sussex), next to the town of Midhurst. The area is famous for being the home of Polo, and Cowdray park is a 2 minute walk from our front door, with stunning walks over the parkland to Cowdray Ruins, the River Rother and the South Downs beyond with many miles of fabulous walks....
The town of Midhurst is a 5 minute walk away, with good independent restaurants ,a Pizza Express, pubs and shops. There is an M&S Simply Food shop a 2 minute walk away. Cowdray Farm shop is a 10 minute walk with amazing fresh vegetables and local meat and cheese.
We are 15/20 mins from both the Goodwood and Petworth estates, with Horseracing, Motor Racing and the many festivals and events that take place there. Chichester is 25 minutes away, with the fantastic Theatre ,Cathedral, Museums and many popular contemporary restaurants.
We are 35 minutes from the coast, and the dog friendly West Wittering beach is a big favourite of the dogs. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
Our two terriers live downstairs in the kitchen and utility room. Our garden is completely enclosed and they are happy to wander in and out during the warm days of summer, or curl up near the aga if its chilly.
Archie is a Border Terror cross (Patterdale and Jack Russell). He is an old man now, nearly 17. He is very deaf, but his eye sight is good, and it still very active, happily walking for 30mins/hour without complaint. He is a little slower these days, but he know the area so well, and the usual walks right on our doorstep are over large open spaces well away from traffic . He is happy on a retractable lead, and is fine with other dogs. He only needs one walk a day, loves to sleep, and is happy to be left for 4-5 hours. He does have a habit of making a bed for himself by tipping the laundry basket over. He is not on any medication and eats very well....
Mabel is a fluffy Jack Russell, 4 years old. She is very sweet, very friendly and very yappy. She loves to sit close to everyone and will walk for hours if allowed to. She is very good off the lead, and doesn't stray far from us. She is not the best at sitting, staying and is not very road wise. We keep her on a lead until we are well away from a road, and then she is very well behaved.
Both dogs are noisy when anyone comes to the door, but very quickly shut up once the can see who it is. It can be noisy, but it is over quickly. They are not the sort of dogs that bark all day long. They sleep well at night . They don't get on so well with cats. + More info
