A little bit of heaven in the West Sussex hills
We have lived in this heavenly part of West Sussex for almost 15 years and love where we live. I used to be a property developer in Scotland but now I am semi-retired in that I do occasional B&B at home but also chair a Parish Council, chair a Community Land Trust and am one of the founders and organisers of Petfringe, Petworth's fringe festival. My wife has a market research business in London and is there during the week, she is a Kiwi so we travel to New Zealand at least once a year....
So we need sitters to look after our lovely animals and keep an eye on the house; trips will vary from one night if I go to London or six weeks if we're away in NZ. + More info
Our Home & Location
We live in Bedham, a tiny hamlet set on the hills between Wisborough Green and Petworth, when I say tiny there is no shop, no pub and a ruined Victorian school (although everyone thinks it was a chapel). A car is more or less essential to get to Petworth, a beautiful market town, or Pulborough where there is a station, a Tesco and a Sainsburys. Needless to say there are some fantastic walks and some lovely pubs nearby.
Despite its diminutive size Bedham has boasted a few famous residents: Edward Elgar lived and composed here and knew the writer Ford Maddox Ford who also lived here. We have a plethora of professional photographers and one musician from a very well known band!...
Arundel Holt Court is a seven bedroom house with the most spectacular views (23 miles) to the north--east, it is around 100 years old and has a large kitchen with 7 metre wide bi-fold doors that open onto a terrace with the garden and the views. We have a swimming pool and a gym which you would be welcome to use and a pool man that comes in along with gardeners, that said any help in the garden is gratefully received.
I can honestly say that a week never passes without something happening to make one of us say out loud how lucky we are to live where we live. It is a heavenly spot and whilst the house doesn't carry much architectural merit it is big country home, what's not to like.
Everything works and we have the exciting prospect of fibre coming to the house very soon which will change our lives for the better as broadband speed isn't the best (you can just stream movies). + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
First and foremost we are looking for people who will love our pets, almost, as much as we do. Secondly we would like someone to keep an eye on the house, keep things ticking over and deal with anything that crops up.
I cannot think of anything unusual that might occur but you never know!...
We have two cats and three dogs: Coco is half Maine Coon and is just a blob of fluffy, purry loveliness; Nikita is half Siamese, was born in the kitchen and is quite needy when seeking affection; Daisy is an old Westie who has had quite a few operations and is the only one needing any medication, she is lovely and can be quite chatty, especially when an animal appears on the TV; Minnie is a Bichon Frise/Shitzu cross and is terribly sweet (although petrified when there's football on the TV - no idea why) and finally Erik, Minnie's pup who is three and heart-meltingly sweet, just a lovely little chap. I am ashamed to say that the dogs sleep on our bed but don't worry this is NOT a pre-requisite! + More info
