Pet sitter needed for 2 beagles Cookie and Snoopy, plus Felix the cat
Hello, we are Steve and Sarah, who love to travel and to get away from our work - building. We renovate houses, which we both love doing, but as we're at home together, all day, virtually every day, we do need to get away and explore.
Being at home all the time allows us to thoroughly enjoy our two beagles, Cookie (6) and Snoopy (2) who are mum and daughter. They just love to play together, and will run around the garden chasing each other all day! But mention the 'W' word and they'll be scratching at the front door - so if you're up for long walks and loads of snuggles afterwards, our two beagles won't disappoint you....
For our sanity and so that we can allow them to run free across the surrounding fields safe in the knowledge that we can call them back at any time, both dogs have 're-call' collars, which previous Trusted Housesitters who have sat for us, have all said that they found them to be truly invaluable. Each collar has a 3km radius, so as long as you keep them in your sight, one press of the button on the handset emits a small 'beep' from a box on the dogs' collar, alerting them to stop / return etc. I have no idea how it works or why they respond so well to these collars, but all I know is that they work and that they do not harm our dogs in any way.
Felix our cat was once described as a 'big fat fluffy mountain cat', and although he's often a little bit nervous of people at first, given time and encouragement he'll sit on your lap all evening, purring his little head off. We got him when we lived in the French Alps for 5 years, so he's well travelled and even joins us on our dog walks. + More info
Our Home & Location
We are currently renovating / expanding a rural 3 bed workers cottage into a country house, that has spectacular uninterrupted views of the full length of the South Downs.
Public footpaths lead directly from the house, all around the surrounding fields and funnily enough, straight to the excellent local pub just down the road where we are always greeted with a warm welcome, and they know our two dogs very well....
I would describe our location as rural, with only one close neighbour, but there is a bus stop 20mins walk away, a farm shop 30 mins away on foot, and the village centre where you'll find a Co-Op, Post Office, etc is a 30 min walk away.
The South Downs are 20mins by car, of which you can see approx 35 miles of the Downs from our house.
The 22 mile long Downs Link runs behind our house which is excellent for runners and bike riding. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
I would expect the sitter(s) to do general housekeeping during their stay (hoovering, keeping the kitchen clean & tidy), but of course looking after the two dogs and cuddling the cat is top of the list.
