Come to our Cheshire Cottage to care for our lovely cats, hens and horses.
** Xmas/New Year dates are a little flexible **
Hi, and firstly thanks for reading our post....
We are a family of 4, living our dream in the Cheshire countryside. We bought our property, a cottage with 2.5 arces around 3 years ago so we could keep the horses at home with us. We are both professionals, working freelance and our 2 children are 10 and 7 years old.
We spent last year renovating our home whilst living in a static caravan and are now ready for a few breaks this year. Generally we love it so much here we don't like to go away too much.
I have a fantastic regular lady who takes care of the animals whilst away, but we would prefer someone to live in and also take care of the animals. She would still be on standby for any horse emergencies if needed. + More info
Our Home & Location
We live in a newly renovated cottage in Cheshire, close to the lovely villages of Lymm and Knutsford. We are only a 5 minute drive from both the M6 and M56, and a short drive/tram or train journey from Manchester.
There are so many fantastic attractions within an hours drive of the house, too many to list. From zoos to cities, walks to adventure activities. Just let us know what you enjoy and we will point you in the right direction. There are lots of fantastic local pubs and restaurants too, again we are happy to recommend....
Our home is a 4 bedroomed cottage with an open plan living, dining and kitchen area, plus separate lounge with log burner. The house is still a little bit WIP in terms of finishing touches, but it is a lovely space to live in, with views of farmland all around us. The garden and outdoor areas have not yet been landscaped but there is still a lovely garden surrounding the house that you can enjoy.
We live on a fairly busy country lane and our garden isn't secure, so any applicants with children would need to consider this.
We are actually away for 2 weeks. We have a family who have previously sat for us coming back. They will do the second week, so we will hand over to you, and then you will hand over to them. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
We have a horse and a pony who are fairly easy to care for if you are comfortable around horses. The cat is fairly low maintenance , needing only a small amount of care each day, but we are planning on getting another cat or two. The hens need letting out in the morning and locking up at night, as well as food and fresh water daily.
Normally the animals take me around half an hour or a little more each morning and the same again in the evening. So as long as someone can be around at dawn and dusk, in between these times you will be free to enjoy our home and the local area.
In addition to our pets, we would like the house taking care of. We have a biomass boiler than needs wood pellets topping up manually into it, the frequency of which is dependant on the weather and how much the heating needs to be on, but usually between every 1-3 days. We would like our sitters to enjoy our country retreat and make themselves at home whilst here and just ask that the property is left as you found it....
Limmi is a 16.2hh part TB who has good manners, is friendly and easy to handle. Anyone with some experience around horses would manage her fine. If we are unable to find anyone happy to look after her then I do have a horsey holiday for her that I can organise.
Prince is a 10.2hh Shetland x Exmoor who is a loveable cheeky chappie. He needs a little tablet daily which he is great at taking. He loves to be pampered once he's got to know you.
Both horses will be kept in their stables at night and will need turning out in the mornings but they are well trained at this. They will only need basic care and feeding and for anyone needing a little reassurance or help I do have a lady who could pop in if needed.
Twister the cat is an old very timid boy who stays well away from us humans, hence the lack of photo. He rarely comes into the house via his cat flap, he just does his own thing but he will be seen out snoozing in the garden and always comes for his food too. After 17 years of little interaction with him, we have decided to get a couple of friendly cats for the children to pet, so these may be new additions for you to care for.
We have 4 hens who are happy girls, but this can change. They just need to be let out and locked up as well as fresh food and water daily. Give them this and they will lay nice fresh eggs for you (dependant on the time of year).
We currently have a sea snail who we are looking to rehome. + More info
