Cottage in Cheshire countryside - cats, hens and horses.
Hi, and firstly thanks for reading our post.
We are a family of 4, living our dream in the Cheshire countryside. We bought our property, a cottage with 2.5 acres around 3 years ago so we could keep the horses at home with us. We are both professionals, working freelance and our 2 children are 11 and 8 years old....
I have a fantastic regular lady who takes care of the animals whilst away, but we would prefer someone to live in and also take care of the animals. She would still be on standby for any horse emergencies if needed.
We need sitters from around 9am on the 16th Feb so we can leave for our journey. Time leaving on 23rd Feb can be flexible. + More info
Our Home & Location
We live in a newly renovated cottage in Cheshire, close to the lovely villages of Lymm and Knutsford. We are only a 5 minute drive from both the M6 and M56, and a short drive/tram or train journey from Manchester.
There are so many fantastic attractions within an hours drive of the house, too many to list. From zoos to cities, walks to adventure activities. Just let us know what you enjoy and we will point you in the right direction. There are lots of fantastic local pubs and restaurants too, again we are happy to recommend....
Our home is a 4 bedroomed cottage with an open plan living, dining and kitchen area, plus separate lounge with log burner. The house has views of farmland all around us with plenty of garden space, including a trampoline, football net, tree swing and climbing frame for those sitting with children.
We live on a fairly busy country lane and our garden isn't secure, so any applicants with children would need to consider this. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
We have a horse and a pony who are fairly easy to care for if you are comfortable around horses. Our cats are low maintenance , come and go as they please but we do have a cat foster pen so could have something to look after in their too. The hens need letting out in the morning and locking up at night, as well as food and fresh water daily.
Normally the animals take me around half an hour or a little more each morning and the same again in the evening. So as long as someone can be around at dawn and dusk, in between these times you will be free to enjoy our home and the local area.
In addition to our pets, we would like the house taking care of. We have a biomass boiler than needs wood pellets topping up manually into it, the frequency of which is dependant on the weather and how much the heating needs to be on, but usually between every 1-3 days. We would like our sitters to enjoy our country retreat and make themselves at home whilst here and just ask that the property is left as you found it....
Limmi is a 16.2hh part TB who has good manners, is friendly and easy to handle. Anyone with some experience around horses would manage her fine. If we are unable to find anyone happy to look after her then I could look at alternative arrangements for her.
Prince is a 10.2hh Shetland x Exmoor who is a loveable cheeky chappie. He needs a little tablet daily which he is great at taking. He loves to be pampered once he's got to know you.
Both horses will be kept in their stables at night and will need turning out in the mornings but they are well trained at this. They will only need basic care and feeding and for anyone needing a little reassurance or help I do have a lady who could pop in if needed.
Twister the cat is an old very timid boy who has stayed well away from us humans most of his life. He does come into the house since we got Millie, a younger female cat a year ago. She is playful, affectionate and cheeky.
We have 2 hens and they just need to be let out and locked up as well as fresh food and water daily. Give them this and they will lay nice fresh eggs for you (dependent on the time of year). + More info
