Gorgeous Farmhouse near Alresford, Winchester with super friendly Mini Dacshund!
We are a family of 5 with 3 children aged 6, 9 and 11. Fig, our mini wire haired dachshund and Popcorn, the hamster, are usually looked after by our parents when we go away, but this time they are away too. We would like to find someone to look after Fig and Popcorn so they are as happy as we will be when we go on holiday! My husband is a Lawyer and works from home mainly. I am a Speech Therapist and work at a local Neuro Rehab clinic part time. The children are at the local school and we have lots of friends nearby who know both Fig and Popcorn very well. The animals are very child friendly, but as both Fig and Popcorn are small and fragile, they need to be handled very carefully.
Our Home & Location
We live in a spacious, comfortable large farmhouse. We are situated in The Candover Valley and is approx. 8 minutes drive from the wonderful market town of Alresford, (recently voted one of the most lovely places to live in the UK). Alresford has lovely shopping (lots of independent retailers), coffee shops, very good restaurants as well as a Tesco Express and Co-op. We are in a rural area with wonderful views over fields and the valley. The house is equidistant (15-20 mins in the car) from Basingstoke which has a fast trains to London (40 mins) and a great shopping mall, and Winchester which is lovely to explore and also has a train station. 1 mile from the house there is a village shop and a fantastic village pub which recently got voted Hampshire Pub of the Year. The house is set amongst stunning scenery and parkland with lots of lovely walks from the house. The house has a 1/2 acre garden, which is easy to maintain, partly walled and there is a large garden table and chairs allowing you to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine. The house is well laid out, with a large kitchen with an aga (which Fig likes to sit next to), large drawing room and 5 good sized bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, a utility room (with a sink for washing Fig if needed!) and we also have a comfortable tv room with Sky and Apple tv.
Responsibilities & Pets
Fig would love at least one walk per day, ideally 45 mins-1 hour in the morning and then 20-30 mins in the afternoon. He trots along off the lead and is very good at following you. He spent the first 2 years of his life in London so he has no interest in pheasants, deer or rabbits which he will often see on a walk! He is a fair weather dog, so it if is raining or very cold he would rather stay in his bed by the Aga! We do try and take him out in the rain, but perhaps for just a quick one! He is happy to go out into the garden first thing (8am ish) and then walk after breakfast or late morning. He is fed twice per day, morning and late afternoon and is not allowed any titbits or leftovers as he has a very sensitive tummy. He can be left for 3-4 hours if you would like to go and explore. He is very well behaved, loves a cuddle and loves a tennis ball! Popcorn, the hamster is also friendly, needs cleaning out once per week (very easy and not messy as we have a brilliant cage!) and needs feeding once per day. If you are happy to handle him each day or so then that's fantastic, but if not then it can run in its hamster ball whilst you clean it out. Fig and Popcorn have not met, and should not meet ever! We don't know what would happen and we don't want to find out! The vet is 10 minutes car drive away and we would like him to be taken there if you are concerned at all about his health.
