Looking for a delightful couple/ individual to look after our 2 dogs , 1 cat and beautiful home in South Devon , UK.
Hello, my husband Stephen Bennett and I , Heather live in the beautiful South Hams area of Devon. We moved from the Home Counties 3 years ago after years of working in London. We had been visiting this marvolous county for decades, for holidays with my son Jamie, and finally decided to take the plunge and upsticks , give up our jobs , and move to our wonderful new home.
We live in a converted barn, with a delightful garden , which has plenty of room for the dogs to explore , views to the sea and ducks on a pond.
Our Home & Location
Our home is situated at the bottom of a lane 5 miles from Kingsbridge - very rural ! It is essential to have your own transport , and preferably a vehicle that can transport the dogs , who love their trips to the beaches, and countryside walks.
House sitters would have their own bedroom with en- suite bathroom. There is a large kitchen / dining room which was updated within the 1st year of us being here. The sitting room has a log burning fire , and a plentiful supply of logs for cosy evenings in. Dogs are not allowed in the house, they have the kitchen and utility room , where they sleep, and the large garden....
The nearest convenience store is just over a mile away, with larger supermarkets in Kingsbridge, Dartmouth, Totnes, Torquay and Plymouth.
Fabulous fish and chips available to either take away or eat in at the Start Bay Inn , approx 2.5 miles away, and for those fancying an Indian or Chinese meal there is a delivery service available as well as eat in , at the excellent restaurants in nearby Kingsbridge.
There are numerous pubs and restaurants in the area, and the beaches at Start Bay/ Slapton, South Milton, and Salcombe being very popular with the dogs, and lovely walks for the humans, especially out of season !
Our home provides all mod cons , including - washing machine, spin dryer, T.V’s , dishwasher, large cooker/ oven, fridge freezer , microwave and plenty of bed linen etc.
We have a very friendly postman who delivers daily , and will also take any post needed for posting if humans don’t want to make the trip to the post office !
Rubbish is collected on a weekly basis - one week the rubbish the other recycling . + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
The most important responsibility is to love our animals , give the dogs plenty of exercise .... the cat can excercise himself !, as can the dogs around the garden, but they love their walks and visits to the beaches. There is a green lane which runs behind the house and is a lovely walk down to a stream , and if feeling energetic is a great walk down to Slapton . A lovely old pub ( The Tower ) awaits at the end for a well deserved drink and snack, and it’s dog friendly.
Take care of our home and enjoy the garden and grounds....
The dogs must not be allowed to venture past the kitchen door into the house, or meet with Tommy. In the past the 2 dogs together , when they come into contact with Tommy , chase him down and become very threatening. Bedivere , on his own used to go for walks with Tommy, but now he’s got Ted, they act like a pack.
Tommy is fed on the landing and let out the front door during the day, and at night we leave the kitchen door a jar and a window slightly open for him to come and go. Tommy loves human company and will happily cosy up on a bed.
If the dogs are out for an adventure , then please leave the access free for Tommy to let himself out of the cat flap ( in the back door in the utility room ) .
The dogs get fed twice a day , a small breakfast of biscuits and meat and biscuits in the evening. Bedtime teats and the odd treat for good behaviour is a must, but strictly no human food , except for sausages!
The garden will require little attention as it’s winter when we need a sitter.
The home will be left clean and tidy , and the expectation would be that it is kept that way. + More info
