Lots of sitting opportunities! We have a lovely home in a leafy Warwickshire village near to Royal Leamington Spa, Kenilworth, and Warwick with it's historic Castle. Stratford upon Avon is 'must place to visit' when you come and stay at our home.
This is a great opportunity to stay in a beautiful home in a picturesque village that's open to singles, couples, or families with older children (no one under 14 please as the dogs have not grown up with children, and best to avoid any accidents, eh?), preferably with experience of looking after a big friendly dog like our 'baby' Chalmers (see pics) - we've got two dogs but the older one tends to sleep most of the time!
There are usually plenty of opportunities to stay because we travel extensively for work and also have family overseas, and are normally away from 2 to 4 weeks at a time. The house is substantial and our THS friends have full use of the living room, dining room, kitchen-diner, family bathroom, downstairs shower room, and two guest bedrooms - so if you are a couple who like to sleep separately then knock yourself out, or if you are travelling with an older child/children then both have a double bed....
More about where we are: Baginton is in the middle of the UK. It is an historic village near to some of the most attractive tourist attractions in the country; Coventry Cathedral, Warwick Castle, Kenilworth Castle, Stratford upon-Avon - the birthplace of William Shakespeare, canals, fields, woods... all the things you might think about in traditional England. The train station in Coventry is only ten minutes away with access to the centre of Birmingham and it's famous 'Bullring Shopping Centre' that run every half hour all day. We recognise that some visitors (especially of you are coming from overseas) need a car so, if you would like to travel under your own steam (or just take trips to the local supermarket) we will insure one of our cars for you for the duration of your stay.
The house and pets: Our home was built in 1930 and sits on a hill near the centre of the village, close to the famous Roman 'Lunt' Fort of Baginton, and overlooks wetlands and fields between the leafy village and then the city of Coventry in the distance. We love our animals! Both Billy and Chalmers are Romanian orphans, and Marmite was inherited from my sister when she emigrated - Marmite loves being outside during the summer but less so when it's cold! Billy is 6 and small/medium sized dog who is very quiet most of the time (until someone rings the doorbell!) and Chalmers is a youngster who is big but reasonably calm for his age, and interested in everything and has a head at perfect table height - so a sandwich left unattended won't be there very long (as our last sitters discovered). They have the run of the fully fenced secure garden, and spend their alone-time in an orangery attached to the kitchen. They like to have a walk at least once a day, and we will give you routes around the village for both long and short walks. Even in bad weather the walks can be fun because the village and church are very pretty.
Your accommodation: During your stay you will have a lovely large double guest room, full access to the kitchen, dining area, and the comfortable living room with easy-to-operate gas log fire for you to enjoy during your stay if it gets cold. The heating tends to be left on unless it's very warm. Separate from the main house but connected via a conservatory is a flat occupied by a tenant - actually he's my old dad who won't bother you, and you can think of as a helpful friendly neighbour. His part of the house is fully self-contained and only shares access to the rear garden. He loves having THS friends staying because he says they are lovely people - so you are in good company.
We look forward to welcoming a trusted house sitter to our home. We hope that any of our dates work for you, and if you are looking for a regular place to stay in this area we'd love to talk to you as we travel so much.
The small print (that's as big as all the other print): Please note you must be non-smokers and families with children under 14 cannot be accommodated as the dogs have not been exposed to living with children. + More info
Our Home & Location
Baginton is an ancient Warwickshire village that is home to a reconstructed Roman Fort (known as 'the Lunt Forthttp://www.luntromanfort.org ), that while close to Coventry still retains the feel of a leafy village. We are fortunate to benefit from lovely views from our garden and access to the main road through the village at the front. However, the house is set back from the road with a generous front garden and parking area. We are also very close to Kenilworth and Royal Leamington Spa, both popular tourist destinations. Stratford upon Avon is also less than a half hour drive away. There is a village store so a car is not essential, and if you cycle you'll be in good company! Rail stations are close by in Coventry and Leamington Spa. If you come by train and need collecting from the station we are happy to collect you and drop you off.

Responsibilities & Pets
All we would like you to do is keep our home tidy while you live there, feed the animals, and let them in and out to go to the loo, and would like you to walk the dogs around the village once a day (it's a very pleasant off-road walk via a churchyard and communal park). We are always within reach by phone if you need us and are used to being away and making appropriate support arrangements. We look forward to meeting you if we sound of interest and you could see yourself working with us for more than just a one-off.
