Ponies and Dogs in country village
John is semi retired now having spent 28 years as an RAF lawyer serving in Germany and Cyprus, and 10 years dealing with miscarriages of justice. Our children have left home now but Marjanne still rides, and the Shetland pony is for the grandchildren!
Our Home & Location
We've lived here for nearly 20 years. Our house is Georgian at the front and even older at the back but in a beautiful setting with extensive views of the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons to the west and the Cotswold Hills to the east. It has 4 bedrooms, 2 ensuite, a sunny conservatory and an Aga in the kitchen. We have a large garden with fruit and nut trees and 4 acres of adjoining fields for the horses. Riding and dog walking from here is a dream as there are nearby woods and hills, including National Trust land and plenty of paths with no vehicle traffic.
We have a large car parking area and flat access to the kitchen, although there is a step from the kitchen to the dining and living rooms and the staircase....
We can provide a small car if required. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
The two dogs are very friendly and good with children. They are quite energetic and need one good walk a day, usually on nearby May Hill. The garden is large and dogproof so they can safely be left to run around there.
The ponies are stabled a few metres from the house and they have adjacent paddocks of 4 acres. One is a 15.2 Connemara which Marjanne rides regularly, and the other is a Shetland pony for the grandchildren on a lead rein. Both can be used/led by experienced riders if desired . Depending on the season the horses usually come in at night, are then fed hard food and hay, and turned out in the day after a similar feed. We have a steamer, which is straightforward to operate, to keep the hay dampened.
