Beautiful Village location in Hertfordshire
We are a busy family with George (13)at a local secondary school and Jennifer (10) at the village primary school. I have been a stay at home mum for 12 years but 2 years ago took a part time job which fits around the family. Simon works in London with travel to other offices across England. Ruby is one of a litter from my bosses gorgeous dog. When the puppies came along we had several visits and couldn’t resist. Ruby has been with us since 8 weeks and we adore her. We try to take her on holiday with us but sometimes it’s simply not practical. We feel she will be happiest being at home while we are away where she is familiar. The local woods are perfect for dog walking.
Our Home & Location
Our home is a 4 bed house at the edge of a beautiful village about 5 miles from Hertford. The nearest train station is Cuffley, 3 miles away. We are about 10 minutes from the M25 and A1 and 40 minutes by train from London. We have a good sized drive for parking and a garden big enough to play throw and fetch with Ruby! Our patio is spacious with a rattan sofa and gas powered fire pit so you can sit back and relax and enjoy the beautiful views of the valley even on a chilly evening. The views of the valley sold this house to us. We feel so lucky to live here. Our next door neighbours are an elderly couple with 2 small dogs. They are so lovely and will often sneak treats to Ruby over the fence! We are keen cooks so the kitchen is well equipped with everything you would need. We have a good sized lounge with a wood burning stove (and plenty of logs!) and steps lead up to a dining area. There is a Den with a piano, sofa and wall mounted tv. We also have a separate large Lobby with washing machine, tumble dryer and ironing board area. This room leads to an outdoor rotary dryer. There is a downstairs WC. Upstairs the master bedroom has an en suite shower room.
Ruby travels well in the car and there are lots of places nearby for dog walking. We are near the Lea Valley canal and bird centre with lots of local walkways. The White Water rafting centre built for the 2012 Olympics is 15 minutes away and there is a lovely outdoor cafe where you can sit and watch rafts and canoes navigate the course. There are masses of public footpaths from our village and beyond with the Hertfordshire Way nearby. We have a dog friendly pub in the village and a lovely restaurant....
There is a village deli shop in the next village and a Co-op a mile away. The nearest main village is Cuffley 3 miles away with a vet, Costa, Co-op, Tesco Express, library, pharmacy, pub, Indian restaurant, dry cleaners, hairdressers, newsagent, chip shop and more. We are 15 minutes from Cheshunt where there is a Tesco Extra and large M&S, Boots, Argos, Next and other shops within the retail park. Brookmans Park is 8 minute drive away and has a butchers, fishmongers, bakery and adorable tea room amongst other shops.
There’s plenty nearby...... + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
Ruby is an energetic dog and needs good walks. We usually take her for a 45-60 minute walk each morning in a nearby wood 5 minutes drive away. We leave her off the lead as she loves to run and explore. We have used a local trainer for 1 to 1 sessions since day one so Ruby responds well to commands and her recall is really good. We have socialised her with other dogs so meeting other dogs in the woods is never a problem. She goes to work with me and plays with her mum on my 2-3 work days. She loves playing with the other dogs. In the afternoon we would sometimes walk her to the local recreation ground and wear her out throwing a ball for her run and fetch. We do leave her for up to 3 hours which I would normally do after a long walk
so she can sleep while I am out. She has always slept through the night in the kitchen in her bed. Never bothered us once at night. We get up around 7-8am and she sleeps a bit more in her lounge bed so we can get ready for the day. We have plenty of toys around for her. We would like our sitters to be happy to do 1-2 good walks a day and not leave Ruby for more than a few hours at a time, after a walk, when she needs to sleep. A sit here would not be suited to anyone wanting to spend days out in London as Ruby would not be happy left alone for prolonged periods.
Ruby is a ‘velcro’ dog and very friendly. Unless she’s asleep she follows you everywhere. She travels well in the car so trips out with her are always an option. There are lots of lovely local walks and places to visit....
Other than looking after Ruby we’d appreciate coming back to a clean and tidy home. No other duties needed (unless you’re keen gardeners and can’t resist it!) + More info
