Quiet country home with lovable furries!
We are looking for a regular house sitter ideally in the UK who would like to take short breaks in the country to look after our fur family for 1-7 nights. We also have a separate studio so any sitter could stay an extra night or two if they like :)
My wife and I are huge animal lovers who also love travelling and we adopted our fur family while travelling abroad. We're looking for someone we can trust to come and stay in our little piece of heaven and look after everyone - someone who connects with animals on an emotional level and doesn't just see them as 'pets'. We both work from home running a small business and enjoy the peaceful, quieter life which is definitely what you will get here; we're in a very secluded spot surrounded by trees with the nearest neighbours a few hundred meters away.
Our Home & Location
Our home was built as a school house in the 1800's which had now been modernised and offers all the mod cons. We are on one floor, with 2 bedrooms, a living room, kitchen and bathroom. The house is very quaint with pretty gardens - everyone who visits falls in love with it! We are based 15 mins drive from Sudbury town centre which has a train station (though tickets can be expensive) and access to shops and restaurants. Colchester is a bigger town (with cheaper travel to/from London) with lots of shops and a cinema etc that is a 25min drive away. We can pick up and drop off people to the station but we are in a secluded location - about a 30 min walk to the nearest bus stop so any potential sitters would either need to have a car, like to walk/bike or be happy to just chill/work at home for their stay. We have 3 supermarkets that will deliver to us if you don't want to walk 30mins to the village shop. When friends and family come to sit for us and they generally stay at home and go for walks in the area. We have lots of walking/cycling paths nearby and lots of wildlife! We have a local barn owl who flies past the house and bats who fly around every evening once the swallows have gone to bed. We also have a lot of beautiful birds, rabbits, badgers, foxes and deer around here. The house is set on nearly an acre of land, which is fenced into 2 areas so the dogs have a lot of space to run and play. We also have some fruit trees and a small veggie and berry garden. We have wifi and a washing machine and while we don't have a TV, we do have a projector which we hook up to netflix etc so we can watch things on the big screen/wall with the pups or Tia. It is a great place to live and stay as long as you are comfortable to be away from people in a calm and peaceful environment.
Responsibilities & Pets
We don't want to come back to a messy house but our main concern is that our fur family get a lot of love and attention. As we work from home, they are used to having someone around most of the time. We rarely leave the house for more than a few hours a day so we would ideally like somebody who works from home or just wants to take peaceful breaks in the country. We would like to meet any potential sitters before leaving them alone with our family to make sure they're the perfect fit so finding someone fairly local who could do regular sits would be perfect. Our cat, Tia, is a very special lady. She is an indoor cat due to being declawed before we adopted her. This procedure (illegal in the UK) left her with deformed paws and arthritis in her elbows meaning she cannot get around easily enough to be safe outdoors. Because she lives in her own room, we spend a lot of time with her and would need somebody to spend at least an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening sitting with her, she makes the perfect work buddy and will just sit next to you purring waiting to be stroked.
We wouldn't want our pups to be walked while we're away as they're reactive to other dogs but they'll be perfectly happy for the short time we go away as they have a lot of space to run and play - they just need to be let out into the paddock for at least an hour a day. They are genuinely lovely beings, they've all just had a tough time in life and need people around them to be mindful of that. They miss us while we're away so anyone who stays would have to be comfortable with them sleeping in bed with them - they are very clean though and we will be sure to give them a bath before we leave :)...
We also have a fish who just needs their filter/bubbles switched on and off once a day and fed twice a day. + More info
