Pet sitting and walking 2 little dogs on leads
The house sit will be in a three-story Grade II listed Elizabethan property that was built around 1590 in traditional local stone. The property is in the East Midlands in Swannington, a small village close to the three cities of Leicester (13 miles), Derby (18 miles) and Nottingham (21miles). We are a professional retired couple who travel frequently within Europe and who have a holiday home in Spain. We are looking for non-smoking/ non-vaping pet sitters, preferably a couple, who love dogs, have sitting experience, specifically with THS and who have excellent references and feedback from at least 4 other THS owners.
The house was originally a Manor House and has many original features and is quite quirky. It is listed in Pevsners Architectural Guide to Houses in England. It's is in a village 5 miles from Ashby de-la Zouch. Though the house is very old (around 1590) it has a very modern living space, high end fittings, an in-house sound system and unlike many old houses - tall ceilings. Many rooms are twin aspect. The kitchen diner has a gas range and all the mod-cons including underfloor heating and a bean to cup coffee maker. The sitters bedroom (one of our guest bedrooms) has a ensuite bathroom with full shower. The house is set in modest landscaped gardens maintained by a professional gardener. There are two patio areas and a small summer house. One of the patios has a gas BBQ. The house is on quite a busy road through the village so there is some background traffic noise, but you are minutes away from some very pleasant public footpaths and woodland walks....
The sitters will have access to the whole house but not the three outbuildings. We would request the sitters do not invite other overnight guests, friends or relatives to the house. The sit is only for the sitters. The village the house is located in has two pubs and one restaurant and there are shops and supermarkets around 1 mile away.
The house has two security cameras trained on the rear and side entrances to the house and garden. They run 24/7 for insurance reasons. Our two small dogs, both 6 years old, are walked on an extendable lead twice a day for around 50 minutes, there are numerous woodland walks a short distance away. The dogs can pull when they first start the walk but they do eventually settle. They are walked on a single split lead that makes walking them manageable even by one person. These are not sedentary dogs and are walked twice a day (around 9am and 4pm). We would like the Housesitter/s to keep this routine. Our dogs sometimes find it difficult to differentiate between toys and furry clothing so fur hats and slippers are best kept in your bedroom
Please note this is a second home. In the past we have requested sitters for our main home and the feedback we have received from them is for our house in Surrey. All of our feedback has been 5 star. This is the first year we have requested sits for this property. + More info
Our Home & Location
We are located in the village of Swannington, Leicestershire in the East Midlands - there are plenty of good dog walking trails including a heritage trail adjacent to the house. We are around a 40 minute drive from the Peak District National Park. We are around 10 miles from the site of the Battle of Bosworth and under 20 miles from Leicester, Derby and Nottingham.
Responsibilities & Pets
Our dogs are small (8 & 11 kilo's) and are both 6 years old. You would need to ensure that the dogs have food and water at all times.
The dogs are walked on an extendable lead twice a day for around 50 minutes, there are numerous heath & woodland walks a short distance away. The Housesitter needs to be comfortable with 2 X 50 minute walks with dogs that can pull but are on a lead....
The dogs are fed once a day after their morning walk and spend the evenings with us in the tv room. They do not have freedom of the house and are hapay to sleep in the kitchen. The garden gets regular visits from foxes and rabbits and is not dog secure. In the summer we'd ask help in watering the garden in hot spells.
We think a car is essential for sightseeing, supermarket shopping and getting the dogs to the very best walks. We can provide the Housesitter with a small dog cage for transporting. + More info
