One-bedroom flat near Maidenhead town centre, comes with friendly cat
I'm Becky, and I'm a work-from-home translator. My husband George and I share a flat with our cat Aslan - it's mainly for his benefit that we're looking for a house sitter, as he is a house cat who gets very nervous when travelling/in a cattery. Our flat would be suitable for someone looking for a base to commute/travel into London, or work from home, or enjoy the local area. Aslan would like someone who is happy to give him plenty of attention - he might be nervous at first, but he's a big softie at heart.
Our Home & Location
We have a first-floor flat with a double bedroom, a large combined dining room/living room space, a bathroom with bath/shower and a home office. Parking for one car is available in a residents car park. We have fibre broadband and freeview TV. We have a washing machine and drying racks for laundry. There's a communal garden and we do have a couple of outdoor chairs if the weather is nice enough to sit outside. Our neighbours are friendly and generally quiet, though there are a few families with children so you do sometimes hear minor noise from the kids. We are located near a train line, so you do hear the trains going past - if you're a very light sleeper or sensitive to noise, this could be a problem, but we don't think it's an issue, especially with the windows closed.
We are about a 15 minute walk (10 minute drive) from Maidenhead station. There is a Sainsburys Local, a couple of takeaways and a charity shop a few minutes walk away and you can drive to a large Sainsburys or Lidl in about 10 minutes. The town centre is around a 25 minute walk (10 minute drive) away and has a good range of shops. There is a park with play area and fitness equipment a few minutes walk away, and a larger park with a running track in the town centre which offers a Parkrun on Saturdays. The town centre has plenty of restaurants and an Odeon cinema. We can also provide a residents' card which gives discounts on car parking in the town centre. There's a leisure centre in town as well with a swimming pool, gym, etc....
We're very close to the M4 and M40, within easy reach of Windsor, and High Wycombe and Reading which both have a bigger range of shopping/leisure offers than Maidenhead. You can get the train direct from Maidenhead to Reading, Oxford, Slough and London Paddington. The trip to London takes between 25 and 40 minutes, depending on the time of day - the fast trains generally run at commuter times. You can get into the town centre by bus from a stop on our road. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
One cat - feeding twice a day, plus litter tray maintenance.
We have a 7 year old cat called Aslan. He is a house cat, as he has FIV, so absolutely cannot be let outside the flat. We feed him once in the morning and once in the evening (around 7am and 7pm) and he gets one portion of dry food during the day which you can put out in the morning and leave for him....
We usually spot-clean his litter tray once every 2-3 days, depending on how much he has used it. At the moment we're using a brand of litter that only needs to be fully changed once a month, so you probably won't have to clean it fully. Aslan has a few toys and a brush, and it would be much appreciated if you played with him and brushed him - he's very friendly and affectionate. He's a total lap cat, and will sit with you in the evening while you watch TV. We do let him sleep on the bed with us, but we will leave that completely up to you - he has plenty of comfy places to sleep in the living room if you would rather have the bed to yourself! + More info
