We are new to the concept of house sitting but happy to welcome people to our home. We have six demanding, thoroughly spoiled cats and we've decided they night feel happier being in their own place rather than staying at their usual cat hotel when we travel. We also have 2 jolly orange chickens who are supplying 2 eggs each day! Allan is retired and I work as a broadcast journalist. We like all things folk and have a (very) extensive collection of folk music.
Our Home & Location
We live in a small cottage in a little village in the south Shropshire hills. On our doorstep are the remains of a lead mine, which was worked up to the 1960s. The buildings are now looked after by the Shropshire Mines Trust. Up the hill are the fabulous Stiperstones. It's a quartzite ridge, the backbone of the county. It's a beautiful, wild place to walk. We have a family run village pub just down the road. There's a basic coop/petrol station about 2 miles down the road and we are between the delightfully quirky town of Bishop's Castle and the county town of Shrewsbury. Public transport in the area is okay if you want to visit either of those places but a little sporadic the more rural you get. A car is probably advisable.
Responsibilities & Pets
We need someone to love our cats whilst we are away. They need feeding twice daily and Winnie needs thyroid medication twice a day - but mostly they need company and cuddles. They are allowed to go outside but are always expected to be kept in at night. They are used to the routine. Our chicken are very sweet and easy to look after, with the added bonus of fresh eggs daily.
