Rural retreat on the borders of Rutland/Northamptonshire
We are a couple in our early sixties who regularly visit France for 7-10 days about 4-5 times a year. We also occasionally need shorter term support, a weekend or maybe just a day if sitters are local.
We live in a very rural location, nearest neighbours are about 1/2 mile away. Our 3 acre plot has stunning 360 views, we are currently completing an ambitious building project including a swimming pool, small lake and stables. You can walk from the door and shops are about 2 miles away in Oundle. We are surrounded by delightful villages and are spoilt for choice for excellent pub food etc....
Although close to our local village, we have no immediate neighbours and our location feels remote. Wellies and waterproofs are essential and you have to be comfortable with that and rural life in general. With no neighbours to offend, our home is ideal if you are into naturist BBQing and loud music!
NB of recent years the dogs Bentley and Brewster have started coming to France with us so that just leaves the cat and chickens and is therefore less of tie. + More info
Our Home & Location
We are still "a work in progress" as a building project but we are currently living in an Annex designed to be a guest suite ultimately with just one ensuite bedroom. Please note there are no spare rooms for children or visitors. Much of the landscaping around our home is now complete. We can offer wifi, lovely walks, log fires and fishing. Lots of privacy and peace. The swimming pool is now fully commissioned.
We feel remote although only 2 miles from Oundle and Fotheringhay. Strictly country lovers only and egg lovers preferred! Car drivers are essential but we can provide a car for local use if you have comprehensive insurance. There's Wi-Fi, a fully equipped kitchen, wood burner and a beautiful oak and glass link to what will be the main house that we currently use as a dinning room with views. The house is triple glazed, highly insulated Swedish eco home with it's own water supply and solar panels. Enjoy numerous lovely local pubs, bike around Rutland water, visit historic Stamford and Mary Queen of Scots last home in Fotheringhay. Take tea around the lake or go glamping in the cabin we have built in the garden....
We mostly go away for short or variable periods of time. Sometimes we take the dogs if at all possible as they have their own passports.
If you are local, we would like to hear from you as short sits are sometimes required

Responsibilities & Pets
General care of our 2 dogs (Cockerpoos if they are staying behind, some free range chickens and head of the household, our cat Benny.
Dogs are called Bentley and Brewster and are loveable and very good natured but occasionally slightly deaf when convenient! We just ask that they are not left locked-up for longer than 3-4 hours max and this is very important to us, we can arrange for day sitting support if you wish to go out for the day. The chickens are very easy and look after themselves. We are a birdwatcher's paradise with Kites, Plovers, Buzzards- and Osprey on Rutland water and there are bluebell woods just a field away....
If you have your own dog, they need to be OK with cats and chickens and non aggressive to other dogs if our boys are staying behind. + More info
