Christmas in the Chilterns
We are a family with two almost grown up children. One of our daughters has just left home for a gap year in Australia. I am a Secondary School teacher (teaching English) and my husband has his own design business which means we are lucky to be able to have a long holiday at Christmas. We have lived in Pishill for twenty years and love the country life. We have also travelled a lot and my husband is Swedish so we have a strong connection to Sweden. We love cooking and have lots of cook books! Well, we have lots of books! The perfect day for us would be a long walk in the beech woods followed by a quiet evening in front of the wood burner- whatever the weather.
Our Home & Location
We live in a small hamlet on a main country road in the Chilterns - an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We are three miles from Watlington, the nearest town and seven miles from Henley on Thames . There are lots of walks immediately from the house as it is on the Chiltern Way and close to the Ridgeway. You can head straight up onto Maidensgrove Common where there is a lovely pub. There is another pub within a mile walk and it is a great walk down to Stonor where you can visit the historical house or just have a coffee in the barn. Our house has four bedrooms (being used as a study) two living rooms and a big kitchen breakfast room with a range style cooker. It is a family home, so we do have a lot of stuff - mainly books! There is a wood burning stove in the sitting room and the heating runs off oil.
It is a traditional brick and flint cottage and there is room to park a car. You will definitely need your own transport here....
It is very quiet and peaceful and would suit anyone looking for a rural getaway who loves walking! The local towns are very old and interesting and have lots of boutique style shops. Watlington even has a chocolatier! Henley on Thames and Wallingford are both bustling market towns. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
We have a lovely one and a half year old Australian Shepherd who is very intelligent and still quite puppyish. She has been to lots of obedience classes and has learnt all the basics very quickly. Ideally, we would love someone to sit for us who is patient enough to continue this training. Rua needs two long walks a day and will quite happily be out all day walking. She also likes to play games as she is mentally alert and loves company. She can be left for about three hours with (puppy kongs) but she is happiest when she has company. Rua can happily nap for hours in the day so long as she has had her walk in the morning. We also have a chicken who needs to be let out of her Eglu in the morning and put away as it gets dark. She is free range in part of the garden. The reward is an egg a day for breakfast!
