Sam & Mark Shayer
My husband Mark and I have been married 20 years. We have family in the close area and enjoy spending time with them and getting out and about in our campervan. Mark retired at the beginning of 2018 and I now work part-time, with my off days looking after the grandchildren and spending time with my mum.
We try to go on a two week holiday every year in around September/October, as well as a week in February/March if we can. Any additional breaks are a welcome bonus. As both the cats and dogs have been spoiled rotten and are used to company and plenty of attention and cuddles, I'm not keen on putting them in a kennel/cattery, as I don't think they would get on very well at all.
Our Home & Location
Mark and I have lived in this house for nearly 20 years and think it is the ideal place to be based, having beaches and moors on the doorstep but being close enough to the city for convenience and nights out.
We live in a detatched house on an old estate, to the North of Plymouth. Dartmoor can be reached within a 5 minute drive from the house, Plymouth City center 10 minutes and the old market town of Tavistock within 20 minutes....
The house has a large, private back garden with patio and BBQ and is situated right opposite a local shop and chinese takeaway. Many supermarkets are within a 5 minute drive.
A car, whilst not essential, would be beneficial. There are buses into Plymouth city center and Tavistock, as well as other local areas, the bus stops are situated a 5-10 minute stroll to either side of the estate. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
We think it would be perfect solution to have someone come and stay in the house that can spend time with the animals, feed them, walk Khali and give them all plenty of love whilst we are away.
Khali, although big, is still a puppy and whilst very well behaved for her age, does require someone that can handle her strength and for this reason, only people used to looking after large breeds would be suitable. She is loving and friendly and the whole estate know her well! She is used to two walks a day and depending on the weather, these can range from short 1 mile each around the estate, to several hours on the moors or beach. She is very social and needs to meet people and other animals every day or else she gets very moody!...
The cats on the other hand, just need food and your lap for lots of love. Don't expect to be able to sit down in the lounge for the evening without one of them with you.
Apart from watering a few plants (and possibly garden ones if the weather is hot), there is nothing else needed to be done in the house.
We would definitely like to have someone that is able to spend the majority of the day with Khali, as she will eat the house if left too long by herself! She loves going out on trips and is very well behaved, so would love to go out with you for day trips. Otherwise she's quite content to spend the day at home with you. + More info
