House sitter needed for dogs, cat and hens
My husband and I live in the countryside near Reading, Berkshire with our two dogs, Megan and Boris, our Bengal cat Oscar and half a dozen hens. I am retired and my husband is a builder and we are in our 50’s. We enjoy walking, gardening, travel and art.
Although we are in the countryside we are a short distance from Reading, Basingstoke and Newbury and a five minute drive from J11 of the M4....
We have a train station five minutes from the house with good services to London and the village of Mortimer with very good facilities.
We are used to having house sitters + More info
Our Home & Location
The house is situated down a restricted byway and is one of only two properties on the Lane. The house is in 2 acres of grounds, and we have an electric gate and the house and outbuildings are fully alarmed. There is a shop in the village which is open daily which is walking distance where staples can be purchased and we have a very good pub which is five minutes walk across the fields serving excellent food, wine and beer.
The Village of Silchester (Calleva) is 10 mins drive with its Roman wall and amphitheatre and is a good place to take the dogs for a walk. Windsor is a 20 minute drive and London is an hour on the train. The local train station of Mortimer is a five minute drive and trains go twice hourly to both Reading and Basingstoke. There are no buses in the village. The local village of Mortimer also has excellent facilities, with a supermarket, hardware shop, cafe, chemist and bank.
Responsibilities & Pets
Responsibilities would include walking the dogs twice a day for a minimum of 40 mins each walk. Feeding and watering the hens and administering lots of love and attention on the dogs, and cat. General care of the house although we do have a cleaner and a gardener who come weekly.
