House sitter needed in Somerset
Looking for someone to look after our house, dogs and cats end from the 12th to the 28th of December 2018.
We're looking for someone wanting a peaceful break, it's a quiet rural area although there is a pub and a great farm shop in walking distance. A car would be required though as there isn't a lot of public transport here. There are some lovely events over the Christmas period at the local villages and the house has 2 woodburners and lots of nice winter walks and good pubs nearby....
We have three Maine Coon cats (one of which is a kitten) who require cuddles and feeding! We also have 2 Golden Retrievers who need looking after and walking daily. We are very close to some lovely rural walks and the beach is about 20 minutes away, Norman will only be about 7 months so will need to be kept on the lead and is quite bouncy so people who are used to having larger dogs are preferred. + More info
Our Home & Location
The house is an old cottage with a modern extension, the house has 4 double bedrooms, 3 upstairs (ours, our daughter's and a spare) and another downstairs with it's own shower room. Upstairs there is an en-suite to our room and a family bathroom for our daughter and the spare room. When we go away we try and move everything into ours and our daughters rooms so you have the two spare rooms and a bathroom and a shower room.
Also downstairs we have a large kitchen/dining/living room area with a playroom off it. There is also a utility where the doggies sleep and a separate sitting room with a woodburner. Outside there are outbuildings, one of which has been set up as a games room with a pool table and gym equipment (cross trainer, rowing machine, bench & weights)....
The garden has a trampoline plus a slide/tree house for the kids. The gardens are large and there is an apple orchard. The area in general is beautiful, close to Cheddar, Wells, Bath, Bristol and Wookey Hole, there are local beaches within 10-15 minutes. Close to the M5 so easily accessible, plus the A38 takes you straight to Bristol within about 40 minutes. The village of Wedmore is closeby which has a couple of lovely gastro pubs plus some boutiques and nice little shops. Axbridge and Cheddar are also 5 and 10 minute drive (respectively), Axbridge has a lovely medieval square with a good farmers market and Cheddar has the gorge and caves. There are some great walks around the area in general, the Mendips, Brent Knoll and the local reservoir are good, there is also Blagdon and Chew Valley lakes nearby. The property has WiFi, air source heat pumps for underfloor heating and two wood burners so you wont be cold! + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
House & Garden:
Generally keeping the house clean and tidy, putting out the rubbish and recycling. The property sits in 1.6acres and at this time of year the garden wont need much maintenance.
We have 3 cats and two dogs. The cats live indoors but have an outside enclosure so the litter trays will need changing but other than that it's cuddles and feeding and ensuring they dont get out any of the main doors. The dogs normally get walked on the beach nearby as it gives them a good run but they can be played with in the garden, they just need supervising and Lola can dig under the hedge and get to the road if she's left alone!
