Unique country cottage in beautiful location
Both my husband, Ian, and I retired early from jobs in the civil service in Taunton 3 and 4 years ago respectively after each completing over 35 years. I am a keen vegetable grower and Ian is a keen railway enthusiast. We are new to this house/pet sitting arrangement but feel it is a wonderful way to have our pets looked after in their own familiar surroundings.
The dates I’ve put in for April straddle the Easter school holidays. I am willing for sitters to just take one or two weeks at a time if they prefer.
Our Home & Location
We live in a recently extended cottage which now gives us 4 double bedrooms, 2 shower rooms, an open planned kitchen/dining room and a lovely conservatory. There is also a hot tub to enjoy in the garden! The cottage is situated alongside the towpath of the Bridgwater and Taunton canal which is very useful for cycling or walking to the actual village of Creech St Michael, one mile away. The towpath leads into the heart of Taunton and it usually takes me about 25 minutes to cycle. It is a truly beautiful journey with lots of wildlife to see along the way. There is a shop with post office, a public house, vets, hairdressers and doctors surgery in the village and as Taunton is the county town, it has a good shopping centre, swimming pool and sports centre. On the outskirts there is another shopping centre, which includes a larger Sainsbury’s, The Range, B&Q, Hollywood Bowl and a multi screen cinema.
It would be advisable to have a car although there is a bus service in the village. Both the north and south coasts are within a 45 minute drive and seaside towns such as Lyme Regis, Exmouth, Beer, Watchet and Minehead, among others, are well worth a visit. The M5 also provides good access to Bristol and Exeter.
Responsibilities & Pets
We would like the house sitters to enjoy the house and garden whilst generally looking after the pets. The two older dogs do not run much now but do like walking around the garden and into the field. They do mostly sleep these days though! Teddy is a bit deaf and can’t see as well as he used to but he is still healthy. Billy, the young whippet is more playful and loves to run after a ball. He also likes to chew odd bits of wood or anything else he might find in the garden. The hens are secured in their coop at night, then let out in the morning where they have lots of safe outdoor space to run and scratch around in. They are good layers of lovely brown eggs which you are welcome to use during your stay. Depending on the seasons, there might be fruit and vegetables to collect and eat too. These would also need watering, especially in the greenhouse and poly tunnel.
