3 dogs and 1 cat seek consistent, unflappable, firm but fair, caring woman/women for sits in Wiltshire, near Bath
We are a self-employed couple with 3 dogs and 1 cat living in a 17th century house in the picturesque market town of Corsham, seeking a special person to look after our 'special people'.
Our Home & Location
3-storey 17th century townhouse set on the quiet High Street of this historic former market town on the edge of the Cotswolds in Wiltshire. This is the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in country life and mix with the locals. The house and the area are beautiful all year round but especially cosy and atmospheric at winter/Christmas time.
The town, and our house, was used as a filming location for the BBC's period drama Poldark, plus others. Because of the area's rich history and architecture, surrounding towns have also been used for filming in recent years: we're 3 miles from Lacock (Harry Potter), 2 miles from Biddestone (Christmas Candle/Agatha Raisin), 4 miles from Castle Combe (Warhorse) etc....
The town has an arty background and there is an arts centre 5 minutes walk away showing films, art exhibitions, plays and concerts, plus there's yoga and other things going on there and in and around the area.
If you like walking/fresh air, we have a stately home and its associated park, ponds and fields a 30 second walk from our door, plus there are various quaint locals pubs.
We have a really well-equipped kitchen especially great for raw foodists (9-tray dehydrator, Vitamix, food processor, grinder, juicer etc). Plus no English country living experience is complete without a beautiful Aga to cook on. :)
If you do yoga / meditation / exercise etc we have plenty of quiet space if you need it plus a weight bench and some free weights etc. And there's a leisure centre an 8-minute walk away which offers various activities, including swimming.
Our cleaner will visit and clean the house once a week, so aside from cleaning up after yourselves you won't need to clean. Your main duties will be feeding and spending time with our dogs and cat, and keeping the house safe and secure.
8 miles from the World Heritage city of Bath (15/20 mins drive);
4 miles from Chippenham train station (1 hr 15 mins fast train into London Paddington);
15 mins to stunning Bradford-upon-Avon (and Wiltshire Music Centre);
25 mins to Tetbury (inc Prince Charles' residence Highgrove House);
50 mins to the vibrant city of Bristol;
1 hr 10 mins to the town and festival of Glastonbury
1 hour to Stone Henge;
25 minutes to Avebury
1.5 hrs to/from Heathrow by car.
If you're interested and would like to learn more, feel free to send us an email.
Till then, have a great day.

Responsibilities & Pets
*PLEASE NOTE: Please read our posting through thoroughly and if contacting please respond to the ad rather than sending a one-liner or general note of interest as we won’t respond - we are looking for someone who can communicate clearly and who is genuinely interested in the opportunity.*
We are looking for a woman or female couple only (as one of our dogs has a fear of men). We would ideally like to have an ongoing housesitting relationship as the dogs take time to trust new people. However we realise it's not always possible to have the same person looking after them so we are also open. We’re mainly interested in people already living in the UK for the above reason and who will remain in the UK for the foreseeable....
We use only organic/natural foods, products and remedies in our house so if you are like-minded this may especially be the right housesit for you. Vegetarians and Vegans especially welcome to apply!
Heads-up: this housesit opportunity does require A LOT of attention to detail and some WORK as our pets have very specific handmade diets and supplementation. It is not a case of scooping some food out of a can. Everything they eat is pre-prepared by hand in advance (lentils, pasta, fish, steamed veggies etc). So pet feeding/remedies chores (preparing food that's run out for example plus adding supplements and remedies, cleaning up afterwards) can take between 30mins to an hour on average per day. You will NOT be required to walk the dogs however.
The perfect housesitter needs to be UNFLAPPABLE, firm but fair, being mindful and consistent in dealing with all our animals. Understanding of dog behaviour and long experience dealing with a pack of dogs is ideal. In our household our animals’ needs come first. We expect the same of anyone looking after them.
In the photo above, left to right, is our deaf cat White Mountain (female), Angel (boy), Poppy (girl) and Pegasus (boy). A regular routine must be adhered to to ensure they all settle easily and trust the person looking after them. But that said they are all beautiful beings with lots of love to give and with a calm, quiet, consistent person around they should chill out nicely - but maybe demanding constant belly and head rubs. If they have someone rushing in and out the house all the time or who leaves them for too long a time, they will get too excited or stressed and lead to problems in the house.
Preparing handmade meals for the animals twice a day - including cooking up batches of veggies & other vegan foods for the dogs 2-3 times a week. Handling tinned or fresh fish for our cat or dogs.
Administering homeopathic remedies to the animals, if needed.
Dog walks won’t be required at this stage as the dogs would need to have built up a relationship with a petsitter over time for this to work.
The perfect petsitter would ideally have experience in a multi-dog household and understand the different dynamics, compared to a one-dog household. Potential housesitters must also have had experience running their own home.
Other duties possible TBC
As a minimum we would require a (skype) chat before choosing a potential housesitter, but better still, we think a meeting in person with the animals would be beneficial for both sides.
No smokers, no other visitors to the house and no bringing your own pets, please. These latter two requirements are per the need for calm and consistency in the home routine for the sake of the animals which is the most important requirement along with safety of course. + More info
