Jess and Molly are looking for a House Sitter in an Idylic Spot near or in Bradford-on-Avon
Hi there and thanks for stopping by!
We, James and Tony, have been living in Ancliff Square since 2009 when we moved back from Chicago after a diplomatic post overseas. We are now into our 50's and want to get out and enjoy life even more! No point leaving it till you are old and creaky eh....
We love to travel although James would say he travels too much with work but find it can now be an issue finding neighbours to look after both our dog (Jess) and cat (Molly). They are both very well behaved with Molly mostly being out all day and Jess just liking company and being a typical labrador. Jess is coming up to a year and a half old and is quite a happy calm labradaor and the cat likes overnight company but will hardly give you or us the time of day during the daylight hours.
We love walking, food, going out to lunch, spending time with our friends, entertaining and anything that gets us out into the countryside surrounding our house.
We've never had a house sitter before so have been obiously wary but this site gets such good reviews we thought we'd give it a go being either a house sitter or someone that provides sitting opportunities.
Thanks very much + More info
Our Home & Location
Note: We are in the process of selling the house so the location may change but only by about a mile and a half. Our new house will be in Bradford On Avon. I'll up date this listing if and when this happens.
However, at the moment out current house is a 4 story ex chapel built in the 1820's attached to a Grade II listed square which was previously weavers apprentice cottages. The chapel was built when the weaving industry collapsed and it was turned into a work house. It was converted in the 80's into 12 houses. Our house forms part of the Chapel behind the square and it is the most private and with a lovely garden....
You will be staying in the lower ground floor flat but you will have complete access to the entire house and garden except the master bedroom on the top floor. The basement flat has its own kitchen, office which you can connect a laptop up to with a monitor and desk, courtyard and bedroom with 2 single beds.
The main lounge has a double height galleried lounge, kitchen and dining space. You can use them too of course. There is a lovely stove and we have a wood store full of wood and briquettes should you wish to have a fire. However, the house is also centrally heated and controlled by Nest thermostats.
There is also a TV room with a 50" TV, acess to Netflix and Amazon Prime TV. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
The sitting is for a labrador (Jess) and Molly our cat. Molly is pretty self sufficient and may take a couple of days before she decides she wants to sit on your lap. She does like company but mainly in the evening. During the day she is either out or sleeping. She's quite friendly in general. There is no cat flap, she will let you know verbally when she wants to go in or out. We generally make sure she is in by 10pm or so and she's quite happy with that.
Jess sleeps in the basement kitchen which has its door shut so she knows it's time for bed. She's quite happy with this arrangement and will go to bed quite happily at night when you tell her. She loves company and will probably follow you around the house. The garden is dog proof so she can't escape providing the main gate is closed. Don't feel tied to the house though during the day although we ask Jess our labrador is not alone for more than 4-5 hours at a time. The local area has no through traffic and we are in a quiet hamlet with no cars, a canal, river etc. She loves long walks and there are plenty directly from the house, maps will be provided....
Molly simply needs to be let our first thing in the morning and let back in at night around 9-10pm. She's an in and out cat and likes to pop back in and take a nap should you be home. Her food bowl should be washed daily and kept full. She generally doesn't over eat and her water bowl should be washed and changed daily. That's it with regards to looking after Molly. If she gets used to you she'll come sit on your lap but at first she may be outraged you are staying in the house as she won't know you. She does get friendlier as night falls.
The only other responsibility is to keep the house nice and clean please. The house is on the market to be sold so I have been taking great pains to keep it as tidy as possible. So keeping the kitchens spotless and the place vacuumed would be awesome. There is a cordless Dyson vacuum in the utility room on the main floor that should make that super easy. it's an easy house to keep clean in general. + More info
