Unique, special home in North Cotswolds with an old dog
We moved from London to the beautiful North Cotswolds four years ago.
We absolutely love our life in Shipston-On-Stour which was recently selected as one the best places to live in the UK by the Sunday Times....
We sometimes travel and we cannot take our beloved dog with us as he is happier at home.
We have had several house sitters who really enjoy staying here.
Our blue roan Cocker Spaniel Charlie is a rescue dog. He is fourteen years old and is unfortunately showing his age. He is still very sprightly and runs around our garden like a mad thing but is unfortunately now totally deaf and almost blind. He also sometimes has a mild form of dementia. However, these challenges do not affect him as much as you would expect and he is still a very happy soul.
It is imperative that we have a sitter who is comfortable with dogs and is empathetic to older dogs. + More info
Our Home & Location
Our home has been refurbished to the highest standard and we have many satisfied guests staying. We are centrally but privately located and have a walled garden which gives us total privacy. We are happy to supply more details of the house to a potential sitter but I can assure you that you will not be disappointed. It is a very unique and very special home.
It is however a non smoking house (garden fine but not in the house)....
Shipton is a unique town. It is vibrant with many small local businesses, several restaurants and good pubs. It also has a very strong sense of community. We are on the edge of the North Cotswolds and there are several lovely walks which start 5 minutes away from our front door. It is also a very dog friendly town with dogs welcome in several pubs (some of which provide dog treats). You are guaranteed to meet several other dogs on any walk.
Shipston is commonly used as a base to explore the North Cotswolds because it is so conveniently located.
Shipston is close to some of the most beautiful villages and towns in the north Cotswolds (Chipping Campden 15 Mins, Broadway 20 mins, Stratford Upon Avon 15 mins and many more).
Public transport is limited to busses which are infrequent so it would be better for you to have a car if you wanted to explore the area but public transport is not unworkable. Trains come into Moreton-In-Marsh, Banbury and Stratford-upon-Avon. There is pretty much everything you need in Shipston, two supermarkets, a butcher, greengrocer, delicatessen, etc in town. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
We will need a sitter to:
1. Look after our house
2. Feed Charlie three times a day
3. Give Charlie his medicine once a day
4. Make sure his water is clean and fresh
Charlie has mild dementia and is old and a bit slow. Sadly he doesn't really want to walk around to very often any more....
Charlie likes to run around and around our walled garden like a puppy usually in the morning and also around 4 pm. He will also sometimes have a run around at lunchtime.
He needs to be fed three times a day and at night he can sometimes become unsettled and needs to be guided to his bed and reassured.
He is an early riser and like a morning wander around the garden.
He can be left alone for up to four hours at a time.
The house is designed to be as low maintenance as possible so there is not much a house sitter has to do except take the post out of the box and clean up behind them. We may ask you to put the wheelie bins out and bring them in. + More info
