Percy and Nellie
We are Hugh and Annie and we live in a beautiful village in Hampshire in between Basingstoke and Winchester. We live in a 4 bedroom house with medium sized garden with fully fenced paddock and orchard for the dogs to run free in. Percy and Nellie are our beautiful dogs and were rescued from Bosnian through a UK charity. Percy will be 2 in August and Nellie 2 in January or thereabouts. Both dogs have been with us since they were 4 months and 7 months old. They are both medium sized/Labrador size dogs and are full of character and love - they love humans, life, other dogs and each other. They like (and need) a good walk daily - we are blessed in this area with plenty of great footpaths and rural walks.
We have been highly recommended this site by a friend who has house sat for many people but sadly will be unavailable on our dates.....
Our Home & Location
Our village has a great pub which is walking distance from the house. Although the village doesn't have a shop the nearest town is 4 miles away and has all the usual amenities - supermarkets, train station, very small cinema, pubs and restaurants. Public transport to and from the village is pretty non-existent so a car is necessary and not provided. We have a large guest bedroom with en-suite bathroom with small bath and then another larger bathroom with walk in shower. The garden is packed with flowers and the orchard has apple and fruit trees and backs onto the village cricket pitch which is used most weekends during the season. Perfect if you like the sound of leather on willow!
Our house is semi-detached - though you'd barely see our wonderful neighbours and set back from the road with views across fields and secure parking....
The large kitchen-diner is light and airy with views out to the garden and beyond to fields, has a range oven (gas and electric), dishwasher and filled with more cooking equipment than you're likely to need. Being a food writer means that there is just about every cookbook ever written to choose from too!
As Hugh works in IT the internet is pretty whizzy too.
just off the kitchen is a utility room with washing machine and dryer, sink, coat pegs and room to store outdoor boots and shoes.
We have a comfy sitting room with log burner, 2 sofas and a large armchair and medium sized TV.
Depending on the time of year the garden is packed with many dahlia plants and the orchard full of apple trees. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
Ideally our dogs would prefer a couple to look after them. We would ask if they were walked on the lead as the countryside around us is full of exciting wildlife to a pair of young and lively dogs - pheasant and deer are all around. Percy and Nellie like a good walk in the morning and then another short spin in the late afternoon/early evening after they've had dinner.
We'd like someone to be here most of the time (and obviously every night) as the dogs are used to human company most of the time - we both work from home and so although they are left alone for periods of time they are happier with someone to chat to....
Depending on the weather the garden would require watering and basic maintenance. + More info
