DOG and HEN sitting In North Yorkshire
Hi there, we are a retired Special Needs teacher and retired Army Officer (currently undertaking a PhD!) who love to travel overseas to visit our offspring in New Zealand and New York! However we have 3 dogs and 3 hens who need someone to love and look after them while we are away. We also have a lovely home and garden that thrives on being used!
Our Home & Location
We live in a lovely village 10 miles North East of York in North Yorkshire. Sheriff Hutton has a post office and shop for all your daily needs and a fantastic coffee shop and deli called Quarmby's. We have two pubs, one of which, The Highwayman, does great food! We also have a wine shop and a very active village hall which hosts a number of events throughout the year.
We are very close to Castle Howard and Nunnington Hall (NT), and the Howardian Hills Lavender Farm is visible from our back garden. We are about 50 mins drive from the East Coast towns of Scarborough and Filey and the dogs love going for a romp on the beaches....
York is very close by and there are Park and Ride schemes dotted around the ring road. We also have a brilliant Outlet shopping Village just to the south of York.
If you add the attractions of the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales and Harrogate all within an hours drive you can see that we are very well placed!!! + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
Our Labradors will need at least 2 walks a day, one first thing in the morning and one in the afternoon at about 3pm. There are plenty of walks around the village but there also enjoy going out in the car for longer walks further afield. The dachshund does not need a walk but quite enjoys a slow amble up to the post office. He is very old and sleeps a lot but he needs letting out for a wee regularly. The dogs are fed in the morning and at about 6 o'clock in the evening and they have a few biscuits at midday and last thing at night. The hens will need shutting in at night and letting out first thing in the morning. They will need their food and water topping up daily and mucking out regularly but in return you get fresh eggs! In addition it might be a good idea to do a poo patrol in the garden every few days! Bucket and shovel provided!!
