Character Country House 10 minutes from the sea with 2 loving dogs
We are a couple in our 50's who decided last year that we wanted a complete 'life change' after too many years of working too many hours in stressful jobs.
We moved to the beautiful rural small village of Colmonell at the beginning of 2018 and love walking with our two dogs, Alfie and MooMoo and spending more time together as a couple. Roy loves all things sport and enjoys golf (which is in abundance in Ayrshire) and we are both lovers of eating in and out (Roy's a great cook!)....
We have joined TrustedHousesitters as our dogs have never been in kennels and we have always had friends and family look after them either in their homes or ours and we know that both dogs are a lot more comfortable at home in their own surroundings.
The most important quality for us in a sitter is that they are dog lovers and enjoy walking (little and often is fine, you don't have to be a marathon walker!) and equally love relaxing with the dogs - making space for one or both on the sofa :) + More info
Our Home & Location
Our home is a spacious end terrace built in the 1890's in the conservation village of Colmonell, South Ayrshire, so it's ideal for a relaxing retreat, but also has plenty of tourist attractions within driving distance.
You will have access to all areas of the house except the attic rooms, as these are yet to be refurbished (so bit of a mess - unless you fancy a major diy project whilst you're staying!).
We have a hall, lounge, dining room, kitchen, utility room, 2 bedrooms, large bathroom, and back garden.
We're happy for you to relax in our home, all that we ask is that you respect it and treat it as you would your own - keep it clean and tidy (but don't worry we're not ocd on cleaning).
Our home is 1 hour from Glasgow Prestwick Airport and 1.5 hours from Glasgow International Airport.
You will need the use of a car whilst staying in our house as it is in a rural location and the village does not have a shop (does have weekly deliveries and the supermarkets deliver from online orders) but we do have a pub! The nearest shop is a 10 minute drive and there is also a small garden centre with a cafe. There's also a lovely spa which serves food with beautiful views across to Ailsa Craig. Depending on the age, etc of the sitter we may be willing to insure you on our car.
We are only 30 minutes from the stunning Culzean Castle and Trump Turnberry and there are many local walks in South Ayrshire, loads of golf courses and fishing galore, just to name a few things to do.
We've put together a house book to give sitters all the information they need on our house, our dogs and the local area.
Responsibilities & Pets
We have 2 dogs named Alfie and MooMoo (Maxie).
Alfie is a Choodle (a cross between a chicuahua and a toy poodle) who is 9 years old and we have had him since he was a puppy. He is very small and loves cuddles and snuggling on the sofa. He's very adaptable and a little sweetie most of the time....
MooMoo is a siberian husky who is 7 years old and she is a rescue dog. When we first got her she was very nervous and wouldn't go very far at all on a walk and was frightened of most things, but we're glad to say that she's massively improved now and is only spooked by a few things. She has a lovely temperament, is very loving and mostly well behaved, although she can be very vocal when she's trying to tell you something (normally that she wants to go in the garden, play, or that it's feeding time) as most husky's are - she also likes her own space and loves her box, so she can disappear for ages at a time too.
They are fed twice a day after walks and have a set diet.
Although not set on time as they are good doggies, the approximate times we take them out are 7.30am morning walk followed by food and any time from 3.00pm to 5.00pm for afternoon walk with food around 4.30pm or after walk if later. It varies on whether we take MooMoo on an additional walk in the evening, as sometimes she settles in her bed and is not bothered whereas sometimes she's a little restless, so then we take her for another short walk. MooMoo will walk in any weather whereas Alfie is not keen on walking in heavy rain and likes his coat or jumper on if it's raining or very cold.
They are happy to be left in the house alone and can be left up to 5 hours.
The only thing we'd ask you to do around the house is to keep it clean and tidy (we don't expect you to spring clean!), put the bin out on collection day and bring the mail in - hopefully that doesn't sound too daunting. + More info
