Housesitters needed in beautiful rural spot in the Scottish borders
We are a family of 4 with 3 dogs, a cat & 2 chickens & are looking for lovely housesitters to take care of our house, & 4 legged & feathered friends, while we go away for the odd weekend & on holiday. Our children are now 21 & 19 so not at home so much & this means that we are tempted to go away a bit more often! Our dogs have never been to kennels as we have been lucky enough to be able to use family to take care of them. This is becoming a little more difficult now, hence signing up to trusted housesitters.
Our Home & Location
We are lucky enough to live in a very beautiful rural area. However we are not far (15mins) from Peebles which is our nearest town & can get into the centre of Edinburgh within the hour if driving. It is essential to have a car & one that will fit 3 dogs in. Despite being surrounded by fields & hills, there is a big chunk of the year when we can't walk straight from the door because of the sheep/lambs. ( This is just down to respecting the local farmer & not because the dogs chase sheep....they don't chase sheep or chickens!) We have a completely dog proof garden so you don't need to worry as long as our gate is kept shut. The area where we are is somewhat hilly so the walks we do are not for the fainthearted, but there are some lovely forestry walks where there is a mixture of hilly & flat! Peebles is a charming Borders town with a very good supply of independent shops & some wonderful cafes & restaurants. There is a fantastic small theatre which has a plentiful supply of music & drama & weekend films. And then of course there's the very special city of Edinburgh not too far away. Our house has got two sparerooms with a guest bathroom which is where anyone staying to look after our home would stay.
Responsibilities & Pets
Where the animals are concerned, the dogs would need a 10 minute run in the next door field first thing in the morning & then an hour's walk at a point in the day which suits. I usually walk them early afternoon but they are pretty flexible! They are fed breakfast & tea.
The cat needs a bowl of food kept topped up & given some milk on a daily basis, but she is pretty independent....
The chickens need to be let out & fed in the morning & shut up in the evening. Their water needs to be kept clean & full. + More info
