House & Dog Sit: A villa in Glasgow
Hi. We're owned by two Greyhounds (Callum & Wullie). Our professional lives are split between Glasgow and London, but I (Chris) am mostly based in Glasgow. I run a major arts organisation and travel nationally and internationally. Our dogs are very affectionate and love hanging with the humans, and while we've some great dog sitters nearby the dogs love nothing more than welcoming new friends into their home.
Our Home & Location
The house is situated a mile and a half south of the city centre of Glasgow in a 'Garden Suburb', dating from the Victorian era. The area is very quiet with three beautiful parks within walking distance. The area itself is a stunning place to walk around with all the houses in the vicinity having been individually designed. Our house is an architectural interest as it was the last house designed by Glasgow architect, Alexander 'Greek' Thomson.
Amenities: A ten minute walk from the house is a little parade of shops including a small supermarket, florist, deli, coffee shop, a butcher (amazing pies), restaurants and bars....
Glasgow and the surrounding area has so much to offer; art galleries, theatres, concert halls, cinemas and a vibrant live music scene with plenty of bars and pubs.
Transport: From home to city centre is either an 8-10 minute walk to one of two local train stations and then a five minute train to Central Station. An Uber/Taxi will take about ten minutes to the city centre and 15 minutes to the 'West End' (more restaurants and galleries).
As a sometime marathon runner I can vouch for some great running/cycling routes either in the immediate area or a trip to Loch Lomond. (There's bike for use too during your stay).
Accommodation: It's a big house! 4 Bedrooms (three with en suite bathrooms), kitchen, drawing room, TV room (with tons of DVD's), music & reading room, kitchen and conservatory (lovely in the summer).
Location: The city has a lot to offer, but also Edinburgh is an hour away. The countryside and coast are all within a 40 minutes drive. The car is big enough to take dogs should you wish, but they're just as happy for you to explore and give you warm welcome from a day out. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
Our dogs are really friendly and very low maintenance (aside from cuddles). They are used to being on their own for between 4-6 hours and are quite happy with a couple of half hour walks morning and evening; that said, Wullie will always be up for extra walking, while Callum is quite content lying on the sofa!
They sleep upstairs in their own beds and they do take over the sofas....
They have a simple diet and require a meal in the evening and as many dog biscuits as you can give them during the day.
The house is easy to maintain. There is a cleaner that comes once a week, and a gardener too. So, really the responsibility to have a nice stay and be a companion for the dogs. + More info
