Cat and Dog in Scottish Highlands
Hi, I’m Hilary and I live with my teenage daughters Nina and Rita and our very friendly dog Flora age 9 and our cat Juno age 2. I own and run my own business, a gift shop in the nearby village of Lochinver. The business is very busy in the summer months so we like to go away in the Autumn and Winter school holidays.
Our Home & Location
Our home is a large, comfortable, light, detached house peacefully situated on our croft 2 hours drive north west of the Highland capital, Inverness. On the NC500 route with some of the most beautiful scenery in the UK is on our doorstep. The nearest village is Lochinver 1.5 miles away, here you will find shops including 2 small grocery shops, a butchers, gift shops and places to eat. The nearest supermarket is in Ullapool about 35 miles away. Nearby there are beautiful white sandy beaches, Achmelvich (2 miles), Clachtoll (4.5 miles) and Clashnessie (6.5 miles). You can walk from the house across the hills and moors or if you prefer there are lots of pathed walks a short drive away. Our house has a oil fired aga for cooking, an open fire in the sittingroom and a wood burning stove in the TV room (in addition to central heating).
Responsibilities & Pets
Flora is a very friendly 9 year old lab/collie cross who mostly likes to be outside and loves to chase a ball. She needs 2 walks a day of about 1 hour, she is used to walking off the lead and walks to heel when told (most of the time!). She likes people and most other dogs but not puppies or yappy dogs (this isn’t a problem as we rarely meet other walkers and if she sees a dog she doesn’t like she does a wide detour). She loves to swim in the lochs, rivers or the sea. She needs fed twice a day.
Our cat Juno needs fed whenever she asks, so little and often (she likes to be lifted up to her food). She can be shy so will need gentle coaxing with strangers. She doesn’t sit on laps but will sit nearby, especially if the wood burning stove is on. She has a cat flap and comes and goes as she pleases....
We wouldn’t like house sitters are used to and like both cats and dogs, are familiar with open fires, wood burning stoves and cooking on an aga and enjoy the outdoors and beautiful scenery. + More info
