Kind country loving couple or person required to look after two field spaniels and a lively English setter, also to check on ponies
Experienced dog loving couple or single person to look after two nice natured friendly field spaniels and a lively English Setter in a beautifully situated farmhouse, quiet and peaceful location, less than 10 mins drive from nearby market town. I'm recently retired with a professional background and have been renovating a farmhouse in glorious countryside. The neighbours are friendly and not too far away. The local area is popular with tourists and provides many interesting opportunities with easy access to the coast and lovely beaches as well as the Galloway forest park and dark sky project.
Our Home & Location
The house is an old farmhouse situated in a lovely rural setting about three miles from Castle Douglas - 10 minutes by car. This area is a prime tourist location and close to lovely beaches, forests and art exhibitions. Further info can be found at www.castle-douglas.com
A market town, Castle Douglas has many individual small shops, it is a designated 'food town' selling local produce and there are numerous high quality places to eat. The Galloway forest park is very close and includes the Dark Sky Park. The house is in the process of being renovated and most of the major work has been completed. There is a newly installed ensuite - shower, bath, WC and WHB in one of the bedrooms as well as family bathroom and bedrooms. The living room has a wood burning stove. The kitchen has an Aga as well as an electric cooker, microwave and dishwasher....
The garden is enclosed and there is outside seating. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
The dogs are easy to look after and are happy playing in the garden. (Field spaniels are much quieter than their Springer cousins!) They are fed twice a day and Molly sleeps on the bed at night. Previously they have stayed in kennels but Molly was very stressed on her return home last time and became ill during the night. She has been checked by the vet and is in good health, although an older dog she is still active. Her friend Whizzy is very choosey about the people she will associate with and either absolutely loves people or runs away from them, she loves to cuddle up to her chosen people but can become easily frightened and will hide under the table. Freckles the English Setter is a 'rescue dog' and was found in poor condition two years ago and is now a lively friendly girl.
Part of the front lawn was reseeded last year and may require mowing, it's not complicated though!...
The dogs are happy left alone in the house for up to five hours so you would have plenty of time to go exploring.
Someone helps with the ponies and will visit regularly so you won't need to spend a lot of time with them unless you'd like to help. You may be asked to put feed into a stable in the morning but wouldn't require to be in direct contact, unless you want this. + More info
