karen and rikki need a house/cats/chickens sitter please
We have 3 cats called Tizzle, Fidget and Smee who sulk if they are left alone. Two beautiful long haired moggies and one short haired. They are friendly, playful and affectionate, although not real lap cats, they will come to you when they want to. We live in the beautiful Teifi Valley in Carmarthenshire, where all three of them have settled in well and love their new home. Plus we have two acres of land to go exploring in. Hunting now seems to be a favorite pastime for Smee, although the cows and sheep are a little on the large side for him, so he just watches them graze in the fields opposite.
We have also taken on some ex battery chickens. Currently we have four, Matilda and Mable, Maud and Mildred.
Our Home & Location
We are located in a small hamlet called Maesycrugiau consisting of around 12 properties. We own a 4 bedroomed, 2 bathroom detached house overlooking the stunning Teifi Valley on the Carmarthenshire/Cardigan border. We have approximately 2 acres of land divided into and acre paddock with a further acre of young orchard, a polytunnel, soft fruit patch and chicken run. There are also plans for Alpacas in the future to take for walks.
Down a very quiet country lane, this is the perfect place to enjoy a house sit away from the madness of normal life. We are 15 miles north of Carmarthen and 10 miles south of Lampeter both of which have good facilities showing off local produce. There is a convenience store in LLanllwni about 1.5 miles away and also a pub and restaurant. We are approximately and hour from the Gower Peninsular, The Black Mountains, Pembroke National Park and the coast. There are plenty of walks in the area and probably the only people who pass the house are locals, ramblers, dog walkers and the odd cyclist. There are so many beautiful and interesting places to visit, all within a reasonable distance. The Honey farm near New Quay, Caws Teifi organic cheese farm, the Botanical gardens of Wales, Dolaucothie gold mine and so much more. We have a selection of OS maps and guidebooks for the area, so feel free to use them....
Please note that mobile phone reception is very limited in the house, but you can pop up to the orchard and get a reasonable signal there. We did say it was rural and quiet.
Recently we have obtained an exemption certificate for our eco-friendly, adult only campsite. www.topocampsite.co.uk. along with starting AirB&B. We will, of course, not book guests for B&B whilst trusted house sitters are here, but there may be some happy campers on site. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
To feed the cats morning and evening, They can have treats through the day. Give them company and strokes and cuddles if they let you. Put out wild bird food daily. Feed the hedgehogs outside of their hibernation time. The girls (chickens) will need letting out of the coop in the morning and fresh water and feed given to them. They are very partial to greens so we also give them the leaves from the broccoli and cabbages from the poly tunnel. They do need to be put to bed at night too. They are dawn to dusk birds so like to be up first thing and they will eventually settle into the coop in the evening. We do have foxes in the area so we ask that they are safe in the coop if you wish to go out of an evening. If the weather is hot could you please water the produce in the polytunnel if required. Otherwise just relax. If you get bored we don't mind if you fancy mowing the lawn which does mean a go on a sit on mower up in the orchard. (Jolly good fun). Otherwise, just enjoy the views and take in the stunning countryside around the area.
