Dog sitting in the Brecon Beacons
Hi. Richard and I live in a 19th century Welsh cottage nestled on a hillside on its own in the glorious Brecon Beacons. We have two daughers – Beth (8) and Esme (6) and three dogs – one Jack Russell terrier (who stays with my mum when we are away) and two German Shorthaired Pointers. We live in the National Park area with views of the Beacons and the Black Mountains. The house is located up a track which is also a footpath/bridleway which leads to common land up above the house where we exercise the dogs twice a day. We have lived here for 13 years and love it but also love going away. We haven't used this house sitting service before so we are open to this new experience. Richard is an actor and works in Cardiff for the BBC and I work freelance from home as a project manager.
Our Home & Location
Our cottage has 3 bedrooms – one double with ensuite (with views to die for!) and two singles (our daughter's rooms) all carpeted – also a family bathroom. Downstairs we have a large kitchen diner, utility room, playroom and sitting room with a wood burner. There are flagstone and wood floors running throughout downstairs. We have oil central heating which also heats the water. The kitchen also has a Rayburn for those chilly mornings. We are conveniently located as we are on our own up a hill but can be in a supermarket in Brecon in 5 minutes by car. We are on a hill so walking boots/wellies are a must up here. There are loads of activities to participate in around us from horse riding to mountain biking, to sailing to hill walking – something for everyone. The location is perfect if you love the outdoors with big views. The garden is 1.5 acres so there are plenty of places to relax in and an outdoor fire pit for barbecuing and sitting round the fire in the evening.
Responsibilities & Pets
We have two energetic German Shorthaired Pointers who we walk on the common twice a day. They love it up there as the cover is perfect for hunting. We walk them in the morning and late afternoon/early evening for an hour at a time (total 2hour/day). The dogs sleep in the kitchen and are fed twice a day. They are allowed in the rest of the house during the day and very often find themselves a bed/sofa to curl up on for a couple of hours post walk. Stella is a solid black bitch and loves to run. Walter is black and white and a rescue pointer dog who is a delight with impeccable manners. Both dogs have good recall and respond to the whistle.
