Arkansas dog and cats like the simple life
We're homebodies who have the best of both worlds: We live on 30 acres overlooking a creek and pastures where cattle graze but we're 20 minutes away from a college town as well as the renowned American art museum Crystal Bridges. We have a house full of pets that are getting up in years but are pretty self sufficient. Truth be told, the dog is hinky. Michael is a high-school English teacher; Dawn has wrapped up a career as a newspaper reporter. Now we're taking every opportunity to travel.
Our Home & Location
Our home in northwest Arkansas -- a 30-minute drive from the XNA airport -- is small but comfortable. We have a library that's a book lover's dream. Our front porch is a great place to watch birds feed in the mornings. We're 5 minutes from an Italian community with a restaurant serving wonderful homemade pasta and fresh-made pies. There are a couple of junk-tique malls, a small local-history museum, a winery with a shady patio and a used bookstore, too. We're 20 minutes from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, which offers a full slate of SEC sports and nightlife along Dickson Street; from Rogers, with an "urban" outdoor mall as well as a charming traditional Main Street; and Bentonville, with Crystal Bridges and a growing number of artisan restaurants. For those who love the outdoors, Arkansas is dubbed The Natural State. Nearby we have the Razorback Greenway, an amenity for those who run and bicycle; Devils Den and Hobbs state parks for hiking; and the Buffalo River for canoeing. The artist community / old hippie hangout of Eureka Springs is a scant hour away.
Responsibilities & Pets
We need someone to feed the pets twice a day and keep the litter boxes clean. Very importantly, one of our cats requires insulin twice daily on a regular schedule. Our dog is on twice-a-day pills as well. Our pets are indoor animals. At the time of this writing, we're keeping a found dog that may become part of our household, too. He's been staying in a dog house, not inside the house. We "inherited" feral barn cats just down the road that we feed each day, too.
