House sitter needed for random weekend trips
Hello! My husband and I have a very small 1 bedroom cottage with a small urban farm in the front yard and chickens in the tiny backyard. We live on a busy street but our house is quiet and feels like a special retreat. We are walking distance to shops and an amazing old school movie theater that serves dinner, wine and beer. We have two dogs: Hazel (boxer, 2yrs old) and Pickles (Dalmatian mix, 3 yrs old). They love to rough house with each other and run around the house. They have a dog door and side yard for going to the bathroom. We need a sitter for a few random weekends a year. Ideally we would like someone who can come over and meet them before we leave. Sometimes they are nervous about new people but can be won over with treats or salami. They are generally low maintenance and just need love and someone to throw the ball for them. Walks are nice but not required. We have a 8 month old baby so both dogs are good with kids. However they do like to rough house so you have to watch them around kids just so they don’t get knocked over. We also have 7 chickens. You only need to collect their eggs each day and enjoy. Their water and food are good for a week.
Our Home & Location
We are a 10 minute walk to Bart and a quick drive to the freeway. We are on the border of Albany and El Cerrito. Everything you need is walking distance from our house. There is great hiking next door in Tilden Park and we are in a very central location in the Bay Area. You can bart or drive into San Francisco, go over the Richmond Bridge into Marin or bart, walk or drive to Berkeley. There is a wonder of hiking, eating and exploring all around us.
We do not have cable but do have high speed internet, Hulu, HBO and Netflix. The downstairs is all open with the kitchen and living room. Upstairs is the bedroom. Our house is small but cute and efficient. Kids are more than welcome in our home but it is only a one bedroom and 580 square feet. We could put an air mattress in the living room but our house is more ideal for a couple or single individual. Prior to your arrival, I will harvest the garden and leave you anything that is ready to eat.
Responsibilities & Pets
Both dogs are cuddle bugs. They will cuddle with you on the couch and sometimes sleep on the bed at night. Sometimes they sleep on the couch. When you leave, please pick up all non dog items and put the baby gate at the bottom of the stairs so she has to stay downstairs. They get fed twice a day and food needs to be picked up after they are done eating. They get some wet dog food mixed with dry food. Please pick up after them a few times a day so they don’t step in their poop and track into the house. They are not 100% trained on the dog door so you will need to let them
outside in the morning, afternoon and evening. If it is nice out, we leave the front porch door open so they can play outside. We only do this when we are home.
For the chickens, you need to collect the eggs in the afternoon/evening and enjoy for breakfast the next day. Their food and water will be fine until we get back.
