3 Bedroom Bungalow in Sunny San Mateo, SF Bay Area
We are a couple, married since August 2016. David is originally Australian but also has British citizenship and a US Green Card, having lived in the UK and US since 1976. Vail is originally from Pittsburgh, PA and has lived in the Bay area since 2003, in this house since 2011. We share the house with Vail's twelve year old daughter, who lives part time with us and part time with her father, also in San Mateo. We are both Unitarian Universalist ministers (though David has retired). Vail works for the denomination. We will be away for six weeks from mid December to the end of January, visiting Vail's son and David's family in Australia. We have had Macy for two years, adopting her from another family.
Our Home & Location
Our home is a comfortable three bedroom bungalow on the outskirts of the town of San Mateo, on the peninsula about 20 miles south of San Francisco. There is a train service north to San Francisco and south to San Jose, and BART (metro system) into San Francisco from Millbrae, six miles north of us. We live opposite a park with a playground and designated dog park, and the Bay Trail is less than a quarter mile away, ideal for walking and cycling. There is an enclosed back yard and front garden with comfortable outdoor seating. The Pacific coast is a twenty minute drive to the west. Amazing countryside - Napa and Sonoma Valleys, Yosemite National Park, Lake Tahoe, Monterey and Big Sur - are all within easy driving distance. Vail's father lives a few miles away and is available to help out if necessary after January 5.
Responsibilities & Pets
Macy is well house-trained. She requires several walks a day, both for toilet duties and exercise, but can be safely left in the house because she has access to the back yard through the dog door. (That being said, Macy is used to having one of us around, and tends to counter-surf if she is left for more than a few hours.) The dog park nearby is a great place for her to chase her "chuck-it" balls, and she would happily do this for hours each day. We have house and garden plants which require watering two to three times per week.
