House sit in Rio Linda, CA (near Sacramento)
We're looking for a dependable house sitter to care for our home, three cats, bees, and nine chickens. We live on a small two-acre farm with fruit trees, a large vegetable garden, and a rose garden.
Our Home & Location
Our house is a storybook Tudor built in 1937 on two acres. There is an old cottage at the back of the property that was the original house, but now serves as a potting shed and chicken coop. Our property is a gardener's and homesteader's paradise! We have about 40 fruit trees and vines, including various citrus, cherries, peaches, plums, apples, figs, almonds, avocados, and grapes. We also have laying hens, and we get between 4-6 eggs per day. Rio Linda is a small semi-rural community just outside of Sacramento. There is a grocery store, local coffee shop, a library, and a community center nearby. Many of our neighbors have animals, including cows, horses, goats, sheep, and donkeys.
Responsibilities & Pets
Our house sitter would need to feed our cats twice a day and change their litter once a week. Chickens need to be let out of their coop in the mornings, and locked back up when it gets dark. The coop needs to be cleaned about once a week, and eggs need to be collected every day. (You can keep the eggs - they're wonderful!). We have fruit trees that need a deep watering once a week. Our vegetable garden should be watered twice a week. Bees will periodically need water and simple syrup, but no other care is necessary. And there's the regular things - collecting mail, making sure everything is okay with the house. etc.
